(NewsNation) — USA Today columnist Christine Brennan is the target of the WNBA Players’ Association over a question Brennan posed over the eye poke that rookie star Caitlin Clark suffered in a playoff game.
“USA Today Sports should explain why a reporter with clear bias and ulterior motives was assigned to cover the league,” said WNBA Players’ Association executive director Terri Carmichael Jackson in a statement, which also called on USA Today to discipline Brennan.
At issue are the questions Brennan posed to Connecticut Sun player DiJonai Carrington the day after Carrington gave Clark a black eye during the first playoff game between the Sun and Clark’s Indiana Fever.
“Did you intend to hit her in the eye,” Brennan asked Carrington.
“I don’t even know why I would intend to hit anybody in the eye. That doesn’t even make sense to me,” Carrington responded. “I didn’t know I hit her. I was trying to make a play on the ball, and I guess I followed through and hit her. Obviously, it’s never intentional, that’s not even the type of player I am,” she added.
Jackson’s statement blasted Brennan in very personal language.
“That so-called interview in the name of journalism was a blatant attempt to bait a professional athlete into participating in a narrative that is false and designed to fuel racist, homophobic, and misogynistic vitriol on social media,” Jackson said.

as an isolated incident
the question would not be asked
but in the context of the obviously intentional physical attacks on Clark
completely logical
and my question always is
where is the coach?
protect your players!
Christine Brennan has apparently struck a nerve. Normally, IDGAS about the WNBA - who does?! - but I admire Cailin Clarke for putting up with all she has tp as a budding superstar who is also a heterosexual white woman in that environment.
Today Caitlin Clark enters the coliseum to do battle with wild African animals.
“Nihil Novum Sub Sole”.
The other thing is in the WNBA they allow players to wear the really long acrylic nails which makes them doubly dangerous.
The unspoken issue in the WNBA is that it’s full of militant lesbians.
The player who poked Caitlan Clark in the eye is dating or is in a partnership with a player on Clark’s team. The woman on the Fever was reportedly reluctant to compete against her significant other and sat out significant minutes.
It’s not a good look for a professional sports league to allow dating between players on opposing teams.
Once upon a time, I saw Miss Clark as the sympathetic victim of mistreatment, jealousy and abuse from her WNBA colleagues. I stopped thinking that way the moment that she cast her lot with Kamala Harris.
Come on Kristine don’t you know there’s no such thing as black racism?
Only Whites have the genetic defect of “racism
DiJonai Carrington obviously poked Clark in the eye to hurt her. She’s part of the black girl clique jealous of Clark. She should be banned from the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark... she is that basketball player show endorsed Kamala isn’t she?
Bingo.
“I stopped thinking that way the moment that she cast her lot with Kamala Harris.”
You’re not alone!
Today, I do not care what happens to Clark on a basketball court.
The players should be required to remove fake nails before each game. The refs should check each player.
The league is not taking itself seriously. There's no reason for fans to support the league. It appears to me that CC is the only true athlete who takes herself seriously in the WNBA.
She may be a fool. That said, it's obvious that I do not support what the WNBA is doing to her.
“That so-called interview in the name of journalism was a blatant attempt to bait a professional athlete into participating in a narrative that is false and designed to fuel racist, homophobic, and misogynistic vitriol on social media,” Jackson said.
Clark is the only reason that people care. I hope the WNBA has to deal with trannies soon. I’m surprised they haven’t to this point.
Combine the nail issue with players on opposing teams involved in a romantic relationship with each other brings into question the integrity of the competition.
All this support for Clark is racist. She plays a sport with a bunch of dyke ferals and endorses a whore who will destroy this country. I have more sympathy for people who get attacked by their own pitbulls.
I mostly agree with you. But Clark is a product of a college and almost certainly a Swift fan that Clark may now have the celebrity status to meet and/or associate. So far the only “endorsement” of the commie has been a like on FB (unless I missed others).
Since I have no use for either the NBA or WNBA I don’t really follow either. But this eye poke thing has been in the news.
“Any man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, and any man over thirty who is not a conservative has no brains.” ― Winston S. Churchill OK, so she’s not a man, yet.
