(NewsNation) — USA Today columnist Christine Brennan is the target of the WNBA Players’ Association over a question Brennan posed over the eye poke that rookie star Caitlin Clark suffered in a playoff game.
“USA Today Sports should explain why a reporter with clear bias and ulterior motives was assigned to cover the league,” said WNBA Players’ Association executive director Terri Carmichael Jackson in a statement, which also called on USA Today to discipline Brennan.
At issue are the questions Brennan posed to Connecticut Sun player DiJonai Carrington the day after Carrington gave Clark a black eye during the first playoff game between the Sun and Clark’s Indiana Fever.
“Did you intend to hit her in the eye,” Brennan asked Carrington.
“I don’t even know why I would intend to hit anybody in the eye. That doesn’t even make sense to me,” Carrington responded. “I didn’t know I hit her. I was trying to make a play on the ball, and I guess I followed through and hit her. Obviously, it’s never intentional, that’s not even the type of player I am,” she added.
Jackson’s statement blasted Brennan in very personal language.
“That so-called interview in the name of journalism was a blatant attempt to bait a professional athlete into participating in a narrative that is false and designed to fuel racist, homophobic, and misogynistic vitriol on social media,” Jackson said.

You are embarrassing yourself and you are embarrassing FreeRepublic with this racist narrative. Plus you know zero about basketball. Run along
Ditto. Live in Iowa and never got why everyone liked her. Now I have a reason to dislike her.
Spear Chuckers? Close enough. Racist it is, indeed!
I don’t live in Iowa, I live in Kansas, as I wrote before, give me the name of a better all-around basketball player than Caitlin Clark. I played small college basketball at Marymount College of Kansas in the late ‘70’s, early 80’s. I should clarify that to an extent, I was basically the 13th man on a 12 man roster. The game was invented here by Dr. Naismith at the University of Kansas. Once again, very simplistic, tell me the name of a better all-around basketball player than Ms. Clark. Her politics do not matter to me, I only care that she puts butts in the seats of my barn.
Okay how petty of you. All I heard and saw was liked a tweet from Taylor Swift, I have not seen her come out and endorse anyone.
“I hope the WNBA has to deal with trannies soon. I’m surprised they haven’t to this point.”
Um, Brittney Griner?
WNBA= Whiney Nags Behaving Awfully!
No she didn’t
She was referring to Swift’s comment on voting.
Clark is from Iowa. a conservative school, family etc.
I doubt that she is a Harris supporter, but I thought she made it clear in her presser that she was telling who she was voting for.
Can you supply us all with a link to Caitlyn saying that she supports Harris?
She’s from a conservative state and apparently from a conservative family so I’m skeptical that she has openly declared herself in support of the Chief Moron/Retard, Kamala Harris.
I think that 28 million dollar contract she signed with Nike (?) is going to hold her right where she is.
You guys can act as apologists for her all you want. Knock yourselves out. But I’m declining to join you in drinking that Kool-Aid. The rest of the world interpreted Miss Clark’s “liking” TayTay’s endorsement of Commie-La as just that, i.e., her liking TayTay’s endorsement of Commie-La , not as some sort of neutral “three cheers for voting in general” kind of thing.
I am not an apologist for her at all. I am just going to cut her some slack.
You cannot take away the fact she is great athlete regardless, if her political leanings influence you to that degree I feel sorry for you.
Years ago I was disappointed that the Allman Brothers endorsed Jimmy Carter but that did not stop me from continuing to enjoy their music, different times I guess.
With all due respect, I see thing a bit differently. I don’t see Jimmy Carter as the natural adversary of the Allman Brothers, and thus their endorsement of him isn’t particularly problematic. But let’s face it... the abuse, jealousy and mistreatment of Miss Clark by her WNBA colleagues is, in my opinion, all about her being a hetero white girl in a league dominated by young women who are black, lesbian or both. George-Floyd-rioting apologist Kamala Harris embodies the very spirit of race-hustling, white-hating and LGBT-promoting that fuels Miss Clark’s abusers. If Miss Clark refuses to recognize and oppose the sources of her mistreatment, why should I?
Thank you ex,
those memories......
If Miss Clark refuses to recognize and oppose the sources of her mistreatment, why should I? Thank you irishjuggler. She is her own person, she can be downright mean at times, Your nose got caught by my knuckles, sorry. But, she’s young yet.
Apparently WNBA has had higher viewership than college football (per game) lately....probably not without Clark.
(Per week there have been many more college football games on TV than WNBA games).
Has the MLBPA/NFLPA/NHLPA/NBAPA ever made a similar complaint?
So you are saying that spreading your fingers wide to swat the area of the ball but then pointing your fingers into the opponent’s eyes is natural behavior?
Yup, you must live in California.
I simply asked you for the link to the video or article you are coming to your conclusions on.
I have not seen it.
There is more contact in women’s basketball than the men’s game because women are not as athletic, not as coordinated, and not as skilled as their male counterparts. They are often more stocky and have big thighs that don’t lend well to quick and graceful play.
Overall, women just aren’t as graceful as men when it comes to basketball.
Look let’s be clear and let’s be fair. Where do you see that she endorsed Kamala Harris?
So, what is the fact here? Is she endorsing Harris?

WNBA star Caitlin Clark hinted at her political beliefs ahead of this year’s US election by liking a social media post from Taylor Swift endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, but she stopped short of endorsing a candidate when asked by reporters on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Swift ended speculation about whether she would endorse a particular candidate ahead of November’s election by telling her Instagram followers that she would be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
Clark was one of more than 10 million people to like the post but stopped short of formally endorsing Harris herself.
“I have this amazing platform, so I think the biggest thing would be to just encourage people to register to vote,” Clark told reporters on Wednesday, when asked about her decision to like the post.
“That’s the biggest thing I can do with the platform that I have and that’s the same thing Taylor (Swift) did.
“Continue to educate yourself on the candidates that we have, the policies that they’re supporting – I think that’s the biggest thing you can do. And that’s what I would recommend to every single person that has the opportunity in our country.”

Personally, for me here’s how it was.
I was watching every game, looking forward to it, in fact. I couldn’t believe that I actually found the WNBA that entertaining, thru Caitlin. I watched only the Fever.
THEN, I heard the ridiculous crap coming from Taylor Swift, who is the product of dozens of songwriters, musicians, and producers. She’s about as plastic as they come. Put her on the road by herself writing her own music and poof! She’d be gone.
Swift endorses Harris. I thought, what a stupid move. An unnecessary move on her part, but she did say, everyone should think for themselves and at least vote.
Ok, fine.
But later, I hear CC gives Swfit a thumbs up, and I’m thinkin’ WTF? Are you stupid girl? Why would you endorse Kamala Harris.
AND THE BUBBLE BROKE FOR ME TOO.
In fact, just like that, I stopped watching her.
And I was going to continue to not watch her, had I not heard her respond to a reporter’s question, on whether she was supporting Harris.
Her answer was that she wasn’t supporting Swift’s comment that one should examine the issues and vote. She was not endorsing anyone publicly.
I wish that she had said or done nothing in the first place. Sure, would love to see her support Trump, but I’m ok with her not endorsing.
