if correct this needs to be made into a huge stink - and not just to benefit us electorally in Pennsylvania, though that’s obviously part of it. This threatens the safety of the entire nation.

I guess they didn’t spend much time discussing the pros and cons of this idea.
Why stop them from hanging themselves? Save some taxdollars from housing them for years.

It's only classified as a medium security prison, the Biden Administration having re-classified it from maximum in February 2021. According to Wikipedia, there was a prison riot there in 1995. It's come a long way from being the place where the likes of Whitey Bulger, John Gotti, Jimmy Hoffa, and Anthony Provenzano were once held. Lewisburg Prison is slumming it these days. I feel sorry for the officers and civilian staff who work there.
You can't lock them up for 24 hours a day unless there has been a serious incident, and you can only do that to regain control of the prison. Courts have ordered inmates are entitled to one hour a day of recreation, specifically those assigned to segregation units. They may have caged, or barred pens attached to each of the housing units for their recreational use. I've seen some cells that had their own penned recreation area attached.
I've found two different possibilities for housing at Lewisburg. One site said there were single cells housing two men. Another search gave me the inmate orientation booklet that each inmate gets at Lewisburg. It described a self-contained housing unit. This could include those two-man cells. I don't understand why the Biden Administration changed the classification of this facility from maximum to medium in February 2021, especially if they were going to start housing MS-13 gang members. There's a minimum security facility next to the medium facility too. Couldn't find what perimeter security, or vehicle patrols they have there.
I worked at both max and medium prisons in NY State. The max had a high cement wall with gun towers. The medium had a microwave intrusion system in between two fences with razor ribbon at the top. There was 24 hour armed vehicle patrol as well as CCTV cameras all around the facility perimeter. That was over 20 years ago when I retired. I'm sure they've updated their systems since then.
And exactly how is this bad for MS-13 members?
