A preliminary report on the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Trump from the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs ripped into newly revealed missteps that went into the Secret Service’s planning and execution of security at the event during which a spectator was killed, two others were seriously wounded and the GOP candidate was struck on the ear.
Among the key failures, an agent inexperienced with drone equipment called a toll-free tech support hotline for help after a request ahead of time for additional unmanned assets was denied, according to a preliminary summary of findings made public Wednesday. According to the committee, he had just an hour of informal training with the device.
“Multiple foreseeable and preventable planning and operational failures by USSS contributed to [Thomas] Crooks’ ability to carry out the assassination attempt of former President Trump on July 13,” the preliminary report read. “These included unclear roles and responsibilities, insufficient coordination with state and local law enforcement, the lack of effective communications, and inoperable C-UAS systems, among many others.”

I witness more and more that individuals don't know how to work basic equipment, software, communicate, or follow procedures. The bosses either don't know because it's beyond them too or don't care because they're eyeing the exits.
It turns out that the "Unbound Prometheus" of technological change is actually brutally bound. It's determinedly limited by the number of users with sufficient intellectual capacity and also the will to apply that intellect. The consequences of failure are increasingly common and even fatal.

These clowns redefine ‘on the job training.’ I no longer buy their excuse of incompetency, it’s sinister malevolent intent.

If you look at it from a common sense stand point, the whole thing is a sham. Protecting current POTUS campaigners has been in practice since 1968 brought on by the RFK shooting. And it has advanced with technology as needed. But the basic gun, shooter, candidate is not part of that advancement. That has been there from day one. So for almost 60 years there has been a continual practice of the work required to do this with an extended checklist.
So with all they have done to do it right, the dogs, the eye in the sky, walking with in multiple layers of protection from immediate to almost 1000 yards away, when they have so many different mistakes done, twice, that it isn’t a concerted effort to allow the possibility of some nut to accomplish it, one would have to be stupid enough to trust their determination and buy into all these different now recognized mistakes that they were already aware of from protocol alone. And he’s been on the golf course many times so they should have had that one down pat. Someone needs to be prosecuted, maybe a few.

Sounds like the rally site had bureaucratic security management which means no management or responsivity. Typical gubmint management where best practices equate to cover your ass, not the subject’s ass
