Pret’s sounds like nature’s way of relieving liberals of their excess money.

“Pret’s sounds like nature’s way of relieving liberals of their excess money.”
And excess flatulence…
I love egg salad sandwiches, but can’t eat them at work.
No one wants to be in a closed room with egg farts.

Used to eat their sandwiches for lunch in HK. They were good, not expensive

Prêt-à-Porter is French for "ready to wear", used to describe off-the-rack clothing, as opposed to tailored clothing. Prêt-à-Manger would mean "ready to eat". It is a boutique lunch store for people who like that kind of thing. Obviously Prêt-à-Porter clothing is the exact opposite of boutique, so there is a perhaps deliberate irony. (The company is British, they cannot help themselves.) I suppose the mark up in the U.S. is for snob appeal, which has likely worn off in the UK. The nearest one to me is in New York City, which has 42, all in Manhattan. Two in nearby parts of New Jersey, six in Philadelphia and seven in DC. So you can figure out what kind of place it is.

From wikipedia:

Pret a Manger /ˈprɛt ə ˈmɒ̃ʒeɪ/ (prêt à manger is French for ready to eat) is a German owned British [4][5] multi-national sandwich shop and coffee shop franchise chain headquartered in London, United Kingdom, and founded in 1983. It is popularly referred to as Pret.[6] As of April 2024, Pret had 697 locations worldwide, including 498 in the UK, 291 of which in London, and 62 in the US with fewer locations in 14 additional countries. There are 62 in the United States 58 on the East Coast; 2 in Chicago; and 2 in Los Angeles.
