Josh Stein won’t debate Mark Robinson in North Carolina governor election
Washington Examiner ^ | September 19, 2024 | Emily Hallas

North Carolina Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein declined to debate Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson as the Republican faces scrutiny over salacious comments he allegedly posted online.

Stein and Robinson are engaged in a battle to become North Carolina’s next governor this fall. Although Robinson has repeatedly requested to face off against his Democratic rival, Stein publicly refused on Thursday.

“Mark Robinson has spent his entire public life spewing hate, lying about his record, and spreading dangerous and false conspiracy theories,” Stein campaign spokeswoman Kate Frauenfelder told the Hill. “A debate would only serve to legitimize him and provide a platform for his vile and dangerous rhetoric, and we won’t be part of that.”

Stein’s firm rebuttal to his GOP challenger comes after Robinson was linked to a username on an online pornography forum, according to a CNN report released Thursday.

The Republican candidate for governor reportedly discussed viewing transgender pornography and made numerous graphic sexual comments, as well as racist comments.

Robinson has denied the allegations and said he would remain in the race. “Everything Josh Stein [and] the Democrats say about Mark Robinson is either an outright lie or twisted so far out of context it might as well be,” his campaign told the Washington Examiner.

Sad to say, but Robinson might not even be in the race by Tuesday.

Interesting. If all of that was true you would think he would be salivating to debate. Sure is some interesting timing and good luck, for a DC connected, progressive Jewish attorney from Harvard to find out his opponent is a black Nazi who wants slavery again. Lucky guy… If one believes in luck that is.

The new era Democrat Party strategy:

"Our Gaslight Media will allow us to stay in the basement!"

Watch the Gaslight Media start hammering President Trump for refusing to debate The Whore That Roared again.

If the Democrats and their Gaslight Media didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any standards at all...

Other FR threads say Dan Forest happens next.

I know little about Robinson and even less about Forest.

But lets hope for the best.

He ran in 2020 and lost to Cooper.

**Interesting. If all of that was true you would think he would be salivating to debate.**

You must be joking.

Forest could have run a better campaign but was a solid candidate nonetheless. Funding probably had much to do with it though. Boy Cooper used the Covid lockdowns to help himself look like a White Knight while contributing to the national mail-in-vote strategy.

Hal Weatherman was Forest’s chief of staff and is currently running for Lt. Governor.

Josh Stein is running a ghost campaign. Not a lot of ads or signs around here for him anyway. Not much name recognition. But there is a local lackey on Fox8 who helps his cause by writing constant hit pieces on Robinson. I’m sure “they” was reveling in the allegations against him.

Robinson seemed like he gave a weak denial. If untrue, he should have refuted the specific allegations. The fact this was played so late in the game, though— after almost 4 years as Lt. Governor— tells me CNN was working in consort with the DNC to scuttle Robinson and do maximum damage to the R ticket for Trump.

Probably would have done better if he was the candidate this time around.

So Robinson should have leaked all of this a while ago. So by the time he was running for Governor, it's all "old news".

Just like Trump's affairs and divorces. It was on the tabloids for years.

Worked for Biden in 2020.

If I were Robinson and innocent of the claims, I’d tell CNN to produce documents or STFU!

The shit could be classic “Oppo-Research.” Can you say: “Crossfire Hurricane?”

He should have dropped out Saturday. Although messy, we could have survived another candidate. Plus mail in ballots would be delayed even longer.

Not at all. If I were a Jewish Harvard educated lawyer, I would think it’d be -awesome- to find out my opponent was a black, nazi, Hitler lover from porn sites who thinks we need to bring back slavery? And it was all proven by CNN?

Can you imagine a more powerful advantage? He could destroy him. That would be like the Chiefs about to take the field and finding the opponent is the local high school team.

He’s probably taking the high ground or something.

Not really. If the race isn't even close and you are solidly in the lead, there's no reason to participate in a debate.

He knows he's too "progressive" for North Carolina. So he's been quiet. If he's in California or Maryland, we would hear a lot more from him.

Why didn’t the guy who lost to Cooper in 2020 not run again?

Robinson won easily in the primary this year.

So the white Jewish candidate can drive off the black conservative candidate based on comments he left on a website more than 10 yrs ago, and the left is okay with that? How did Robinson do as the Lt. Gov? Since he has a record, that should be the main issue.

At least the Republicans have a supermajority in the NC Legislature.
