Several top staffers and fundraisers for Mark Robinson's gubernatorial campaign have quit, current and former campaign members said Sunday.
The North Carolina Republican Party nominee for governor is facing increased pressure and skepticism from members of his party after a recent report by CNN alleging that he made lewd, racist and pro-Hitler comments on a pornographic website's messaging board. ... Pressure had been mounting on Robinson in recent weeks, when some Republicans saw his poor polling numbers as a potential drag on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's chances of winning North Carolina’s crucial 16 electoral votes. A WRAL News Poll in early September found the presidential race statistically tied, but Robinson trailing Democratic opponent Josh Stein by double digits.
During a visit to Wilmington on Saturday, Trump — who until recently frequently praised Robinson from the stage at rallies in the state — didn’t even mention the candidate he had endorsed and frequently compared to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

I haven’t been following the governor race because I never had any enthusiasm for Robinson. But, if you can believe the polls, Stein wasn’t running away with it. He only had 3 to 4 points over Robinson.

Not even close - as of Sept 18 he’s behind from 5 to 13 points from various polls.
Republicans better get a replacement ready. this could end up being a stroke of luck, if republicans quickly come up with a good replacement.
Briefly a few months ago. Then he ran his mouth at some event and the press went with it wall to wall for “controversial remarks” and it has been downhill since then.

There's still a decent amount of time for a replacement--someone with some name recognition and a vetted background--to step in. We can't just hand the race over to the Dems without a fight.

“454 Chevy Forums.com” username (BigBlock454Dude) and framed me, claiming I was on a nazi website with that same user name, I would have hired a forensic computer expert and had law enforcement intervene and provide records, check ip addresses, etc. As far as I know, he did none of that so far.
