JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has called for federal employees in Washington, DC, to return to their offices, highlighting the ongoing debate over remote work policies.
What Happened: Speaking at The Atlantic Festival, Dimon expressed his frustration with the number of empty buildings in the capital, according to Business Insider on Friday.
“By the way, I’d also make Washington, DC, go back to work. I can’t believe, when I come down here, the empty buildings. The people who work for you not going to the office,” he stated,
“That bothers me,” he added. Dimon emphasized that he does not allow such flexibility at JPMorgan.
Why It Matters: Dimon is not alone in his stance. Earlier this week, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that Amazon employees would return to the office five days a week, reverting to pre-pandemic norms.
JPMorgan’s policy mandates managing directors to be in the office full-time, while other employees must work in person at least three days a week. Last year, the Biden Administration also pushed federal employees to return to in-person work.

Musk is chomping at the bit to put efficiency and productivity into the government. Please notice that I didn’t say “back” into the government.
He’s completely missing the point. It doesn’t matter where this gigantic army of “workers” is located; many of them are just serving the interests of the bureaucracies, not serving the people. The larger goal should be to downsize the government. Bigley.
I hope Elon Musk can have the opportunity to expose the waste, redundancies and mismanagement in government so that a we can have a more streamlined and focused government working for US instead of the ever expanding administrative state.
Grifter “employees” bother me, Jammie.
“It might actually be a good thing that a government bureaucrat only does 15 minutes of work a month.”

The dirty little secret in DC is the vast workforce of contractors who do a lot that Feds should be doing.
Agreed. So many people are trying to put the genie back in the bottle.
There are very real savings & efficiencies working form home for those positions where productivity can be measured objectively. Rather than trying to switch back from cars to horses the trick is how to maximize the advantages of working from home for the company & the individual.
“I think we ought to cull at least 75-80% of them anyway and radically shrink the size of government”
Seems to have largely worked for “X”.
A significant number of us would rather see all D.C. gubmit buildings deserted. Completely. Then fumigated. Fumigated again. And only let employees back in who could pass a 1900 high school’s standard civics, history, English, and math tests. That would eliminate the vast majority of RATs and pretty much all of the media.
The less federal employees do the better, imo.
A huge chunk of the employees at federal HEADQUARTERS buildings spend most (and, for many, ALL) of their time pretending to work. Their work habits at home are certainly the same or WORSE. For these “workers”, since they apparently can’t be fired, we can at least inconvenience them by making them show up at their offices.
They used to have to show up everyday for 9 to 5 job to "earn" their pay.
They're not even doing that anymore.
And no one cares.
He’s calling for Federal employees to get back to work. I forget which department it was but one of the big h=ones had about 80% of employees not log in to their system in two years
We should do an audit.
The number of emails per day sent by a federal employee?
How often is each supervisor contacting his employees?
Heck, I’d fail that audit. I often go days without sending any emails and frequently go weeks or even months without talking to my boss.
I’m too busy and so is he.
Yeah. It bothers him because he’s losing money on it.
Correct. I suspect his buds in NYC govt have pressured all the Wall Street Banks to enforce on-site work because (it is well known) tax rev’s are in the toilet, and Wall Street Drones spends lots of money in NYC even before lunch.
Guess they asked him to shill other big employers to toe the line.
Heh! Excellent post.
And there’s also the hellish commute. I think the DC area has either the worst or second worst (to L.A.) traffic in the nation.
I also suspect that having domestic employees work at a home is a lot like “offshoring,” which big employers are very fond of. So I’m not sure how much traction this half-hearted bleating will get.
Not really. If you saw how many Federal employees “work” from home, how they spend their “work days” and much they get paid, you would be furious.
The lack of work on the part of federal employees is enough to make you furious.
The lack of work on the part of federal employees is enough to make me furious.
The CEO of JPMorgan?
He’s not a Conservative patriot who wants the government to work harder.
He’s a businessman who wants to make money.
Do not give him any credit for wanting anything else.
The corporate real estate problem hits him in his pocketbook. That’s 100% of what HE cares about.
Now I would be totally open to the idea that they should all be fired. If that is what you are suggesting I agree.
I really think most federal agencies could do with a 80% trim off the top. Some with 100%.
