NTEU becomes latest federal worker union to endorse Harris (National Treasury Employees Union)

The National Treasury Employees Union on Thursday became the latest federal employee union to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential campaign.

NTEU joins the American Federation of Government Employees and the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, both members of the AFL-CIO, on the list of labor groups representing federal workers to endorse Harris following her ascension to become the Democratic nominee this summer. AFGE and IFPTE had both endorsed President Biden in 2023, and then updated those endorsements after his withdrawal in July.

In a statement, NTEU National President Doreen Greenwald touted Harris' record supporting federal workers and empowering unions at federal agencies.

“When it comes to treating federal employees with respect, valuing their service and investing in their work, Kamala Harris is the clear choice,” Greenwald said. “She shares our values and our commitment to making sure that the federal government works for all Americans. She has been a strong advocate for the issues that matter most to federal employees: fair pay, paid family leave, adequate agency funding and staffing and robust collective bargaining rights.”

Though the endorsement makes no mention of Harris’ opponent, former President Donald Trump, his own record on workforce and labor issues likely played a large part in NTEU’s choice. While in office, the Republican nominee sought to reduce labor’s influence on the federal workplace and to strip tens of thousands of federal workers in “policy-related” positions of their civil service protection; he has vowed to revive the latter initiative if elected in November.

Federal worker employees— who should NOT have a UNION period. Against the law to have them so they lobby to increase their pay and numbers to increase their budget. Again- illegal as all get out.

Treasury agents— have a fn UNION? Oh yes— while they “police” us paying their wages through union lobbying.

NO- this should never have happened. For a FACT, FDR said govt employees should no be allowed to form unions as this would tie the govt up in non-ACTION of govt. services to the Public.

U.S. Federal Labor Relations Authority

"Fifty years ago, on January 17, 1962, Federal employees first obtained the right to engage in collective bargaining through labor organizations when President John F. Kennedy issued Executive Order 10988"

The government unionizing against the people is insane, the government going on strike against the people is insane.

The people are hardly in charge of the government when it is unionized against them, big government liberal JFK knew what he was doing when he empowered them.

Trump will need legislation to fire (I assume you mean de-certify!) the NTEU. Note: This is a very radical leftist union! LBJ took JFK’s EO allowing federal unions and codified it with legislation. Now to get rid of them you need to repeal the legislation.

Unions especially government ones should stay out of elections and set their members FREE

Federal unions should be outlawed. Additionally, how is a Federally employed person allowed to take a public political stand not a violation of the Hatch Act?

Federal workers should never strike. But Federal unions do serve a purpose. I never joined our union, but I did observe them assisting employees who were being mistreated by their supervisors.

Anyone who tries to rein in those agencies paychecks is enemy no. 1 to them. I believe most democratic support is from government workers at all governmental levels.

If you checked the unions ratio of money spent helping workers compared to the union bosses and assistants salaries and overhead costs (bribery, voting drives, support for government policies you hate) you may have a different opinion of unions.
Not to mention that they institutionalize business stasis.

As I stated, I never joined our union. There were many things I did not like about the union, including those you stated.

Please- give it a rest. There has been the Civil Service Code in place since before FDR. Never has needed a union until the democrats found a further way to screw up good fair government. Under Civil Service— nearly impossible to fire employees for fedgov for life. But govt is best when it is small and close to the people. It’s not too late to rectify this situation.
