The man suspected of trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump laughed and smiled during his first court appearance on Monday morning.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, allegedly attempted to kill Trump with an AK-47-style rifle with a scope. He reportedly hid in bushes at Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach and was about 400 yards away from Trump when Secret Service spotted the rifle and opened fire.
Cameras were not allowed inside the courthouse, but Fox News confirmed Monday that Routh repeatedly smiled and laughed during a conversation with his court-appointed lawyer before the hearing started.
Another reporter permitted into the courthouse, Brooke Chau, posted, “Routh had slicked back dirty blonde hair, a stoic look, he stared at reporters and was handcuffed wearing a navy blue jumpsuit.”
During his appearance, Routh said he makes about $3,000 a month but has no savings or assets aside from two trucks he has back in Hawaii. The suspect also said he sometimes supports his son.
The hearing before Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe only lasted eight minutes.
Routh, who is reportedly a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, was charged with two counts: possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon, and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, CNN correspondent Dianne Gallagher reported.
The first charge carries up to 15 years of prison time, with a possible five-year sentence for the second charge, ABC 11 notes.
Trump on Sunday responded to the attack — which marked the second attempt on his life in just nine weeks.
“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!,” Trump said. “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”
Routh has a bond hearing set for September 23. The suspect will be formally arraigned at the end of the month.
Oswald-Epstein Syndrome
That’s a keeper, right there! Love it.
Of course he’s smiling he knows he is going to get a slap on the wrist..he’s NOT even being charged with attempted murder..HELLO, that was his intent had the SS agent not seen the gun through the fence, let’s say at the time the perp had not put the gun through the fence the SS agent would not have seen it and instead of seeing the headline “Attempted assassination of Donald Trump” the headline would have read “The Assassination of Donald Trump” that is how close Trump came to death, hole 6 is literally close as hell to that fence he would have had a clear shot..yet this POS is laughing because he knows he has too many damn connections to spend 1 day in jail
Who gets probation for the possession of an unregistered machine gun?
$3000/month for doing what? Is that the going rate for MK Ultra goons these days?
Serial killers such as David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) smile a lot when arrested and while in court.
Can’t remember his name but that one black man was so out of control that the judge was forced to make him watch from closed circuit TV next door. He screamed every few minutes while in the courtroom.
A small handful of videos of other defendants in court.

I read that Harris is setting up a "Routh Freedom Fund" to get people to contribute to bailing him out.
Harris Wrote Entire Blog Post Encouraging People To Donate To Bail Fund That Freed Future Murderers
(just kidding...or am I telling the future?)
I’d pull him aside and advise him not to purchase any green bananas...
They could only come up with 2 charges? Boy, these guys are really on the ball. Trump jaywalks in New Yawk and they will come up with at least 50 charges including three rapes and two car hijacks.
Feel free to run with it. That’s my diagnosis and I’m sticking to it!
What’s his DU name?
Yet he lives in one the most expensive places to live and routinely flys all around the world.
This imbecile probably doesn’t realize that his actions have likely boosted Trump’s vote-count by at least a few-hundred thousand across the board. Possibly a lot more.
That may come later. They always hold back charges so they can use them later if necessary................
He was supposed to be a patsy that got taken out. He is sure to be “Epsteined” to stop him from talking. He lived in Hawaii and was a convicted felon so it is not likely he could bring a rifle on an airline flight. Who supplied the rifle? Who sighted it in? Inquiring minds want to know.
I agree....some stimulant.
The test: If this guy turns up dead soon he was sent rather than acting entirely on his own.
Routh had vanished. A morning came and his jailers could not find him. A few thoughtless people commented on his absence. The next day nobody said anything. The third day his name was missing on the court docket. It was enough. Routh had ceased to exist. Routh had never existed.
(apologies to George Orwell)
