The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected and tracked several Russian aircraft in the Alaska area over the last week.
Two aircraft were detected Sunday and two on Saturday, according to NORAD. The planes were Russian IL-38 military aircraft and were operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone.
NORAD said the aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian airspace.
Similarly, NORAD said last Wednesday that two Russian military aircraft were detected. A day later, two Russian TU-142 military aircraft were detected.
While the activity may be an uptick from normal operations, NORAD said this activity happens “regularly” and is not seen as a threat.
NORAD said the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone is a stretch of international airspace that begins where sovereign airspace ends and it “requires the ready identification of all aircraft in the interest of national security.”

WOLVERINE....
“I say let’s send the long range missiles for Ukraine to use and see what happens” said no sane person ever.
They have been doing it, pretty regularly, for about 60 years.
The TU-142 is a modified TU-95 Bear bomber used for maritime patrols.
The IL-38 is a rip-off the old US maritime patrol aircraft. First flight - 1960.

Both would last seconds when going up against a Raptor, the latest birds used for intercept out of JBER.
And we’ve been doing it to them for about 60 years.
Sure it wasn’t Santa practicing?
Yes, that too. I probably should have mentioned it. 😀
“minor incursion”
Thirty years ago Russia was so broke we were paying their nuclear weapons scientists so they wouldn’t go to Iran.
They didn’t even have gas money to fly their airforce.
McKittrick, after very careful consideration, sir, I’ve come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks.
