Alex Chiu plans to use his lottery winnings for his children's education and investments
After a rough night with his newborn, married father of two Alex Chiu of Maple was in disbelief on learning he had won a $1-million Maxmillions prize in the Aug. 13, 2024 Lotto Max draw.
“To be honest, I was having a rough morning. My newborn had kept me up all night,” Chiu recalled, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I received an email from OLG confirming I had won, and at first, I thought it had to be a scam. I just kept staring at the screen. I was shocked, thinking to myself, ‘What am I seeing here? OMG.’”
“I think I am still in disbelief. This win could not have come at a better time,” he concluded.
Chiu, a visual effects artist, has been playing the lottery with OLG for about three months and this is his first big win.
With his windfall, he plans to save for his children’s education and invest.
The winning ticket was purchased on OLG.ca.
First rule of the New Millionaires Club?
DON’T TALK about becoming a member of that New Millionaires Club! Very soon, Alex will learn the reasons for this rule.
Maybe he’ll finally get that cheerleader who dissed him in high school to take an interest in him.
What on earth is a new dad doing wasting his money money on lottery tickets?
How much has he spent? Less than a million, of course, but it would be interesting to know.
My Canadian wife tells me that Canada does NOT tax lottery winnings.
Wise man.
Harris says, no way!!
If he stays up all night with his baby, he’s a good dad and deserves the money!
Some countries also do not tax winnings from shows like Survivor.
We’re is Maple?
Planning a trip?
Save for his children and invest! Holy crap. Someone with a functioning brain actually won!
We’re is Maple?

Between Oak and Poplar
You got the money for the ticket from SOMEWHERE and it was taxed then - wages, interest, stock sales, gift...
And then, when your ticket hits the trash can, every bit of what you paid for it goes into the government coffers.
Have fun "playing", Suckers!!
Not in MY dictionary!
We are is set up us the bomb.
