Police have found a car and a gun belonging to the man suspected of shooting and injuring five people along Interstate 75 in Southern Kentucky Saturday night, but they are still searching for the suspect.
Laurel County Sheriff Gilbert Acciardo said Sunday that police found a vehicle belonging to 32-year-old Joseph Couch near the interstate on Saturday night, establishing Couch as a person of interest in the shootings. The car was parked atop a hill on a U.S. Forest Service Road past interstate Exit 41, near the shooting.
On a separate stretch of the highway, Acciardo said, police on Sunday found an AR-15 they believe was used in the shootings. He said authorities don’t know why the suspect seems to have ditched the gun.
Acciardo said investigators think Couch is still in the woods of north Laurel County. Acciardo described the search as “slow-going” because of the rugged terrain, but he said finding the gun was a positive development.
Couch is suspected of opening fire on motorists in both directions of I-75 around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Nine vehicles were shot into, and five people were injured. All of the victims were described as stable on Sunday.
Police said Couch should be considered armed and dangerous, and they encouraged people to call 911 if they see him.

“authorities don’t know why the suspect seems to have ditched the gun.”
Maybe he didn’t want to be caught with it. Or maybe it wasn’t him that left it there.
Well, they’re rolling on in, right on time for an election.
Usually they come in threes.
Are they going to find that he took his own life with three bullets to the back of his head?
OR-—HE HAS ANOTHER
I’ll go with suicide. He probably had a pistol as well as the rifle.
Running out of ammo would be a likely possibility. He knows that his chances of using it as a club against armed police are very, very small.

I find it kind of hard to believe that this guy would just leave his car and gun there to be found when all he had to do was drive away and disappear. Something does not sound right.
How many FBI agents does he know?
They found fully charged magazines with the gun.
Maybe someone was by his car as he returned to it?
As for his weapon, maybe he thought he would come back for it later?
Hey! No one claims he’s a genius.
Must be the FBI is trying to get rid of their overstock of AR-15’s.
He’s pissed he didn’t get the Trump assassination gig like he was promised.
Don’t know, but he kept shouting, “What do you know about Treadstone?” and “I want to know about Treadstone.”
Several years ago, there was a murder in the county next door. Cops found his car parked in a wooded area near the railroad tracks. They thought he probably jumped on the train as it slowed down at a nearby crossing so they at first took only a cursory look in the woods. Finally, they made a more thorough search and found his body there. He had dug a shallow grave, covered it with leaves and branches and then crawled in and shot himself.
As I recall, he was a professor and was having an affair with another professor. He shot her dead in broad daylight in the downtown area. A crazy story that took over the headlines for an entire week.
They will probably find this guy dead before long as he realizes they are going to get him sooner or later.
Sorry about the double post!
I’m thinking he’s gone Cu Chi Charlie. That is, underground with tunnels.
Ahhh, thank you. Hadn’t heard that until now. That’s interesting.
Canines will find him.
