US's Austin says no one capability decisive in the Ukraine war

US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin has side-stepped Ukraine's demands to be allowed to use US longer-range weapons against targets in Russia.

"I don't believe that one specific capability is going to be decisive," said Austin at the conclusion of the Ukraine Contact Group at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

The current battlefield showed that Russia had moved certain aircraft using glide bombs out of range of US ATACMS missiles, he said.

When asked by a journalist whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had said that there were strategic targets in Russia that could be hit with longer-range weapons, Austin responded evasively.

There are many targets in Russia and Ukraine has numerous ways of attacking them - for example with drones, he said. "I think that in the foreseeable future we will ensure that we continue to focus on helping Ukraine to effectively defend its territory," Austin continued.

After the conference Z said Russia had no red lines, and there was no reason to fear them.

Apparently the Pentagon believes they do. Even State is acting a little sheepish on it.

This is the Pentagon's $250 million kiss of death.

No US weapons will be provided for deep strikes into Russia. Z is going to have to figure something else out.

I seem to remember the opposite was said about:

Bradleys
Abrams
HIMARS
ATACMS
F-16’s

all of which turned out not to be the game changer promised.

Oops, it seems Austin believes the US doesn't have the capability to prevent getting nuked.

NOW it's time to negotiate.

NOTHING ABOUT THIS WAR WAS EVER MEANT TO BE “DECISIVE”.

This was just supposed to be a conflict that was supposed to be kept stoked and grinding up the manpower and war material with war profits going into the pockets of players on all sides. And also, incidentally, keeping the international relationships in a continuing state of turmoil. After all, what could possibly go wrong?

This is a “Let’s you and that other guy fight” situation, with no actual direct engagement in the fight itself. Until suddenly, things get outta control.

“we will ensure that we continue to focus on helping Ukraine to effectively defend its territory,”

By attacking the Russian homeland with US weapons?

How would the US react to Iskanders, KH-101 and Kinzals being stationed on Cuba, along with -TU-22s to deliver them?

Austin keeps lying about Putin's supposed desire to take all of Ukraine and then start heading West.

Putin doesn't want to have to deal with the nonsense that will be left West of the Dnieper.

American politicians are making millions and want this war to drag on. Why doesn’t Putin put a stop to it? Austin (aka Corn Pop) has no idea.

Isn’t it strange that they never mention peace negotiations for Ukraine but constantly force Israel to have them. it’s almost like they don’t want the war to end.

There is no one weapon that changes the game except perhaps nukes.

But a combination of capabilities can. Remember the often cited marines being attacked in Syria by a 100 or so ? Everything snooty of nukes was brought to bear and the attacking forces were decimated

As long as Russia has relatively safe spaces to launch attacks on Ukraine, then yes there is no game changer.

Imagine ww2 Germany not being able to be attacked except by French resistance biplanes
