Canada’s left-wing New Democratic Party (NDP) on Wednesday announced it was withdrawing from the coalition keeping Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in power, a blow that could seriously threaten the already-embattled Trudeau’s grip on power.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh announced the breakup in a campaign-style video released by his party.
“Today, I have notified the prime minister that I have ripped up the supply-and-confidence agreement. Big corporations and wealthy CEOs have had their government. It’s the people’s time,” Singh said in the video.
A supply-and-confidence agreement is essentially a promise by a minority party to unconditionally support a larger party, without demanding the powers of a coalition government. In exchange for a few policy concessions, NDP has been keeping Trudeau’s Liberals in power since March 2022 by pledging to support them in no-confidence votes that might otherwise bring the government down.
“The NDP is ready for an election,” Singh declared, presenting his own party as a better choice to carry the left-wing standard because Trudeau is “too weak” and “too selfish” to oppose the Conservatives’ plans to cut government spending.

Bless the Canadiens that have decided to dump this dip$hit.
The NDP... New Democratic Party is full of sh*t... If a vote is called and JTurdoh needs their vote to stay in power... They’ll give it too them.
The NDP originally wanted to be the ‘National Socialist’ Party... But the NAZI’s beat them to it.
When is the no confidence vote? I think Singh sees himself as the primary opposition... When do we get Prime Minister Poilievre?
How do you like them apples?
The populist-left party doesn’t want to get blamed for the horrific failure of the corporate-left party. It’s not about what’s good for the left, it’s about how to not get buried in anger and instead take over the left mantle. A new election would mean a huge victory for the “conservative” party if the vote went the way of current political polls.

You are right. This is more strategic on the NDP’s part. They will still vote to keep Trudeau in power, but don’t want to be branded as part of the governing coalition that they know is going down in flames.
The NDP will never vote against Trudeau... So the fall of next year, maybe?
The NDP will likely disappear as a party in the next election... They’ve been holding JT’s jockstrap since the last election, keeping him in power and kowtowing to his every whim. They’ll pay a price for that at the polls, so they aren’t in any hurry to have an election.
Unfortunately, Canada has the same problem we have. We vote for people who talk the conservative talk and then most of them betray us. Then we stay home on voting day. Rinse repeat.
Yes, but who will replace him? Sounds like more leftists. Per Wikipedia, “ Singh identifies as both a progressive and a social democrat. He advocates raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, decriminalizing personal possession of all drugs, and supports eliminating several tax deductions available to the highest-income earners.”
I thought Sikhs were usually conservative, but not this guy.
