U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is facing growing pressure to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act as part of a Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government funded beyond September 30.
The SAVE Act requires proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections and is strongly opposed by the White House and Congressional Democrats.
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has been an outspoken proponent of the measure and says attaching it to a CR spending bill is the best way to move it through Congress.
Lee also says the SAVE Act is necessary to ensure that the 10 million plus illegal immigrants who have crossed the border, as well as the 30 million or so non-citizens in the U.S. don’t vote in the November election.
In addition to the requirement of proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, the SAVE Act also requires states to verify citizenship and to remove non-citizens from voting rolls.
The Act would also require legal action against officials who register non-citizens to vote.
Arizona counties are being sued by America First Legal over refusal to remove non-citizens from their voter rolls.
While some Arizona officials maintain that voting by non-citizens is rare, concerns remain that non-citizens who are illegally registered to vote may not be the ones to actually cast their own ballots and may lead to ballot harvesting.
The Biden Administration has issued a statement of opposition to the SAVE Act, claiming that current laws are sufficient to prevent non-citizen voting and that the bill risks purging eligible voters from the rolls.
Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) told The Hill:
“If Democrats are unwilling to fund government into March … and their big hang-up is the fact that they want noncitizens to vote, let them take that to the American people. They want to shut government down over that, that should be on them.”
Let Biden explain why he vetoed it and shut down the government to save illegal voting.
I found a new word that belongs in today’s lexicon. Its kakistocracy. We don’t have a democracy or a republic. We have a kakistocracy.
noun
Government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens.
Agree.
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“[pass the bill so] 30 million or so non-citizens in the U.S. don’t vote in the November election.”
This utterly ridiculous statement infuriates me. The Rs had THREE YEARS AND TEN MONTHS to do something about this and did NOTHING.
With Election Day around the corner and mail-in voting starting, the Big Rig, Bigger Cheat and Biggest Steal are already in motion.
Cue Lucy and Charlie Brown.
There’s no drama folks. It always turns out the same way,

SHUT IT DOWN!
The demand for mail-in ballots is way down this year.
Mail in ballots is just one tool in their kit bag.
Agreed.
I think Liz Cheney is a prime example of the garden variety DC Republican, they talk a good game until they are cornered, then show which side they are really on.
This explains why we keep getting ineffective House and Senate leaders as well.
Rush Limbaugh told us we had a kakistocracy 20 years ago.
And he was right
lol… name one time the Republicans actually shut down the government. This is all political bs.
They locked us down, banned bumpstocks, love homosexuality, transient children and protecting traffickers and rapists with chemical abortion.
Rush has always been ahead of me. He was the goat. I just found the word. And I think its a perfect description of our government today. If Trump does not win, and maybe if he does, we will have a kakistocracy far into the future.
Your Govt. working/Not working....
Right after taking the gavel in October 2023, Johnson said in a letter obtained by ABC News to colleagues that he would not break for August recess until all 12 appropriations bills had passed the House.
“DO NOT break for district work period unless all 12 appropriations bills have passed the House,” Johnson wrote in his first letter as speaker.
That promise was not kept.
Meanwhile, to date, the Senate has not passed a single appropriations bill.
I am getting sick of the same old number 10 million they’ve been bantering around for decades. These people are clueless.
