New York Times runs an op-ed calling on the public to go without air conditioning

What is it about the New York Times op-ed page and every crackpot idea under the sun.

Somehow, they always find each other.

So now we have their latest: kill your air conditioner to save the planet

The Times found some guy in Salina, Kansas, who praises going without and says he does it himself:

"Whenever people ask me how my wife and I have endured 25 Kansas summers almost entirely without air-conditioning, I like to say we do it because air-conditioning makes it too hot outside. We’re not ascetics, Luddites or misers; we just want to keep living comfortably, indoors and out.

It’s not just that air-conditioning is making our summers even hotter. (On a sweltering night in a city like Houston, the hot air that A.C. units blast out over the streets can raise outdoor temperatures up to three or four degrees.) It’s also that air-conditioning has altered the way most Americans experience heat.

Our bodies have grown so accustomed to climate-controlled indoor spaces, set at a chilly 69 degrees, that anything else can feel unbearable. And the greenhouse gases created by the roughly 90 percent of American households that own A.C. units mean that running them even in balmy temperatures is making the climate crisis worse."

Is he expecting some calamity that will leave us without air conditioning and so unadapted to that that we wouldn't be able to take it?

That's what it sounds like, what with greenie mandates from Democrats that would ensure that prices of air conditioning will soar so high there will be no air-conditioning for anyone except party elites.

In Arizona before modern AC we had swamp coolers.

I grew up in the 1950s and early '60s without air conditioning at home or school. Still don't have it at home, just swamp cooler as do many others around here. I live in the desert.

Let me chime in with my stats. In winter, I keep the thermostat around 68 degrees, and wear a sweater or felt bathrobe. When it gets real cold outside, I’ll reduce it as low as 60, and add sailing gloves and a ski hat. (Got to keep the fingertips uncovered so I can keyboard.)

In summer, I keep the thermostat at four degrees F lower than outside, or 79 degrees when it’s hotter than 83. I would go higher, but I have a cat with a fairly thick coat.

My main goal is to keep the air dry. When I moved to Oklahoma decades ago, I discovered by accident that 95 degrees can feel like 80 degrees if the air is dry enough.

Right now, when I go to restaurants, I wear a sports jacket because of the temperature set point commercial establishments use.

It’s time to quit giving the mentally ill a voice in our society.
We should completely ignore all their insane delusions and fantasies before they get us all killed.

They want to divert electricity and water to computer chip making and electric car battery manufacturing IMHO.

This is Florida. No air conditioning means a new sort of Hell in the summertime.

About 500 people in Chicago died around 1996 because it was very hot 🔥🔥🔥🥵🥵🥵 that Summer 🌞🌞🌞.

Brilliant idea, New York Times

Way to get people killed

I run it on 75 while I’m sleeping, 80 when it hits the 90s during the day, and 78 otherwise.

“Brilliant idea, New York Times

They know people aren’t going to fall for another virus-and-vaccine fable again to reduce the population. Maybe they’ll be stupid enough to voluntarily cook themselves to death. (Yes; they ARE that stupid.)

Well, they get to that point and I’m gonna jury rig something with dry ice, a foam cooler, and a small electric fan. I did that one summer when our power was out for a week, and it worked great.

They think current refrogerants are vad for the environment... Wait until I go through 10lbs. of dry ice a week.

I am sure this guy has a lot of fans going in his house, he would have to. Now does he go buy some blocks of ice to put in front of the fans to put out a little cook wind?

How many cold showers do he and wife take, and do they taken them together to save on the water bill?

If all the Servers and Data centers in California were shut down they might actually have the extra electricity to have EV’s.

One of the reasons I do not look forward to life under the Dems.

What do you want to bet the elites and Dem politicians and Hollywood types will use their air conditioning all the time, like the ones who take private jets and use limos and SUVs themselves as they go to conferences on restricting our rights due to climate change.

When I lived in Arizona, we had our air conditioner set at 84 F.

Night time lows (yes, night time) in August were usually around 98 F.

“I’m pretty comfortable up to 85. 90 and above though, it starts interacting with one of my meds by raising my body temperature and things get ugly. I’m also on a drug that can inhibit sweating, so heat stroke is a real possibility.

So, no. I’ll keep my AC. After surviving kidney failure in my teens and twenties, I’d prefer to keep on living, thanks.”

You don’t need to make excuses to use AC. If you want to use AC, that’s your right.
