Trump Advocates for ‘Laws’ Prohibiting Use of Marijuana in Public Spaces: ‘So We Do Not Smell Marijuana Everywhere’
Breitbart ^ | 08/31/2024 | ELIZABETH WEIBEL

Former President Donald Trump advocated for legislation in Florida that would prevent marijuana from being used in public spaces, adding that people did not need to smell it everywhere.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump spoke about Florida’s Amendment 3, which would allow adults 21 and older to possess, buy, or use marijuana for non-medical reasons.

Trump noted that in an effort to make sure marijuana legalization is “done correctly,” the State Legislature needed to “responsibly create laws that prohibit” marijuana from being used in public spaces, “so we do not smell marijuana everywhere we go.”

I’m tired of smelling it on people who pass by me.

Just as bad as some perfumes or colognes.

Trump needs to focus on federal issues and not get ensnared in local issues that put him at odds with voters.

Sounds reasonable to me. I visited my brother in Miami recently and he was commenting on how prevalent the smell of marijuana smoke is when walking the streets of downtown. And these are nice areas of town, not slums, that he was talking about. It’s just accepted by local law enforcement down there. He assumed that I was experiencing the same thing where I live in North East Florida. I told him we don’t have that problem in my part of the state.

BTW, medical marijuana use was legalized in Florida in 2016 but recreational use is still officially prohibited. But the penalties for recreational use have been decreased in many parts of the state, particularly in South Florida (i.e. Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties). In all three counties, being caught with 20 grams or less is classified as a civil citation with a $100 penalty for first time offenders. Even that is rarely enforced so people smoke openly in many areas of that part of the state.

If marijuana can be smoked where ever, then cigarettes, cigars and pipes should be allowed as well. Solves that problem fast.

Public drunkenness is still illegal, isn't it?

So if weed is legal, why not make it clear the same rules apply?

Cannabis, THC, liquid, gummies, actual weed, certainly has a continuing effect on the state of Colorado, innocent enough to be everywhere and insidious enough to be destructive. Every. Damn. Where. Even western slope.

Oh but it’s feckin’ harmless. /$

No one should have to worry about themselves or their children breathing in toxic fumes of either cigarettes or, especially, marijuana, a mind-altering drug. Who in their right mind thinks that is acceptable?!

Here’s Trump’s full Truth:

As everyone knows, I was, and will be again, the most respected LAW & ORDER President in U.S. History. We will take our streets back by being tough & smart on violent, & all other types, of Crime. In Florida, like so many other States that have already given their approval, personal amounts of marijuana will be legalized for adults with Amendment 3. Whether people like it or not, this will happen through the approval of the Voters, so it should be done correctly. We need the State Legislature to responsibly create laws that prohibit the use of it in public spaces, so we do not smell marijuana everywhere we go, like we do in many of the Democrat run Cities. At the same time, someone should not be a criminal in Florida, when this is legal in so many other States. We do not need to ruin lives & waste Taxpayer Dollars arresting adults with personal amounts of it on them, and no one should grieve a loved one because they died from fentanyl laced marijuana. We will make America SAFE again!

Yes, I have seen this as well.

Where we’re going (and we’re going there) is not good.

Conservative users will come to realize this soon enough. But it will be too late by then.

Yeah.... I guess the libertarian position sounds good. At first.

But who gets to pay for all the societal damage it does? You and I, same as always.

If we could find a way to make the user responsible for his/her own actions and rehab, I could probably get there with the libs. Libertarians that is.

I’m pretty sure that a prohibition on public use is a part of every legalization scheme. He needs to chide the States’ executive branches nto enforcing the law. Many of the schemes never go through a State legislature, but rather are accomplished by initiative petition.

Re: "No smoke in public spaces"

Unrealistic.

Most marijuana smokers are younger persons.

If you smoke in your dorm, or in your apartment, or in your parent's house, you risk being evicted.

Besides public spaces, the only other option is to smoke while you drive around in your car.

FYI - if you live in an urban area, you smell marijuana coming from cars almost every day.
