Just a quick drive-by post. On Christmas Day Dad was talking, on his own initiative, about nursing homes and assisted living. I reminded him of the possibility of home health care service. He asked me to look in to it.

I did yesterday and today he signed up with a company. He liked the product and Bob’s your uncle! I will be around as he gets started. Then, my step-sister will be on call.

Good news, Jem! Glad for your dad, and for the family. Sounds like a relief!

“....home health care service”

I hope it works out better for him than it did me. I signed up for one of those, called “Home Instead” thinking they would come and clean my house. I didn’t need them to cook for me, or take me to the store, (which I found out would be extra cost for milage) They had a minimum of 3 days a week and 2 or 3 hours each day (can’t remember how many hours for sure) costing $500 for 2 weeks.

I would have to tell the person each time what I wanted done. I don’t need much done so it basically became just a companion thing which I don’t have a lot to talk about 1 day a month let alone 3 days a week for 2 hrs each.

I now have a lady that comes in once a month to vacuum and mop my floors for $50. If I need my kitchen throughly cleaned I can have her do that another time for $50.

My DIL had one of those organizations come in also and they were not happy with them.

I hope it works out for your dad, but be sure to keep an eye out on how much they actually do. If it ends up just mostly conversation/companion that is mighty expensive talk.

Do they have a “Meals on Wheels” program in the city where your father lives? I know they opperate in all 50 states. I am using their service that way I don’t have to cook much. It is basically free but if you want to donate they recommend
(at least here) $3 per meal. Lunch time only.
