Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired the commander of the country's air force Friday, four days after an F-16 warplane that Ukraine received from its Western partners crashed during a Russian bombardment.
The order to dismiss Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleshchuk was published on the presidential website.
"We need to protect people. Protect personnel. Take care of all our soldiers," Zelenskyy said in an address minutes after the order was published. He said Ukraine needs to strengthen its army on the command level.
The dismissal came on the same day that Oleshchuk directed scathing criticism at a lawmaker who is deputy head of the Ukrainian parliament's defense committee for her claims that the F-16 was downed by a Patriot air-defense system.

Well, I guess this tells us what really caused the crash!
Ukrainians, ... all of 'em.
The commander should be happy he can get out of Ukraine now.
Word is the F16 was shot down by a Ukrainian missile battery. Friendly fire.
Look - a military that punishes failure! what a concept.
I heard this was the first use of the F-16 in combat conditions in Ukeland. Not a good sign for Ukeland or the west’s “wonder weapon” reputation [again] when your plane is shot down on the maiden flight.
Will he receive a “golden parachute” severance package?
And the F-16 shot down was piloted by the BEST and most trained of all the Ukrainian F-16 pilots.
It's all equipment U.S. taxpayers were forced to buy, that their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as the Replacement Americans will be forced to pay off.
It was likely staffed by contractors working for a U.S. 3-letter agency.
I sense a coup is in the works.
Getting out alive would be a welcome severance. But he might want the Biden administration/Zelinsky to given his golden parachute before the whole shit house comes crashing down.
