The driver whose vehicle was rear-ended by U.S. Sen. John Fetterman is now sharing her account of what happened.
Jennifer Campbell, 62, of Virginia, spoke about the collision in Maryland in a statement from her lawyer.
Campbell said she was driving westbound on Interstate 70 in Washington County on June 9. She saw an SUV rapidly approaching behind her and braced for the impact.
Her car ended up on the shoulder. The vehicle was severely damaged, with the trunk compressed into the back seat area.
Campbell said Fetterman approached her after the crash to check if she was OK.
She was taken to a hospital and said she continues to undergo treatment.
She said she came forward in response to numerous media inquiries and wanted to put a name to the person involved in the crash.
"I think it's important to recognize that I'm a real human being, and this crash left me with real injuries," she said.
A Maryland State Police report concluded that Fetterman was at fault in the crash. No citations were issued.
News 8 obtained state police bodycam and dashcam footage from after the crash. You can see it here. John and Gisele Fetterman Pennsylvania US Sen. Here is the full news release from Campbell's attorney:
"On the morning of June 9, 2024, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman (D) and his wife were traveling westbound on Interstate 70 in a Chevrolet Traverse SUV. Fetterman was driving when his vehicle collided with a Chevrolet Impala near the I-68 interchange in Washington County, Maryland, close to Hancock. The identity of the other driver was not initially disclosed; however, after numerous media attempts to reach her, 62-year-old Virginia resident Jennifer Campbell has agreed to share a brief account of the collision.
"Campbell stated that she was driving westbound on I-70 at highway speed, approaching the I-68 interchange. Just before the impact, she briefly observed the SUV rapidly approaching from behind. She braced for the collision, which was high impact, and her vehicle eventually came to rest on the shoulder. Her Impala was severely damaged, with the trunk compressed into the rear seating area.
"Based on the extent of Campbell's vehicle damage and the statement of another motorist, Maryland State Police have concluded that Senator Fetterman was traveling well over the speed limit. Campbell recalls a brief interaction with Senator Fetterman after the collision when he approached her car to check on her well-being at the scene.
"Campbell was transported by ambulance to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for her injuries and continues to undergo treatment. The Maryland State Police report indicates that Senator Fetterman was at fault in the crash.
"Campbell has chosen to come forward in response to numerous media inquiries and to put a name to the 'other motorist' involved in this collision. 'I think it's important to recognize that I'm a real human being, and this crash left me with real injuries,' Campbell stated. For now, she continues to focus on healing and seeks to maintain her privacy as she recuperates at her home in Virginia.
"Campbell has retained attorney Andrew Thomas in Warrenton, Virginia. She was not available for comment on her ongoing injuries or health status at this time."

She was driving full speed on the interstate, probably 70 or more mph. He rammed her from behind at a speed sufficient to total her car. No mention of a breathalyzer test. No citations were issued. No speeding ticket, no reckless driving, no failure to control, nothing. That’s in Maryland the state with the idiot rat governor.
This is probably the first time Ms Campbell has been interviewed by a reporter in her life. She has stepped forward to enjoy her full 15 minute Close Up
i have driven that treacherous stretch of I-70 thrugh the pinch point where Maryland is less than two miles wide south to north.
There is a nasty weave with oncoming traffic from the right which must either merge or exit within about half a mile. The least amount of impairment or distraction could be deadly.
When it comes to law enforcement against fellow Democrats less is Moore.
RE: Fetterman has the qualified mental acumen to be a US Senator, but he really shouldn’t be allowed to drive. LOL!
“Sometimes I wonder if I’m slipping. Like I’m getting too old to properly do my job here as a coal miner. What would we do if our brains get addled and we’re unable to keep up with mining?”
“Oh, I suppose if we were useless for coal mining we could always take up something else like becoming judges.”
Doesn’t say so but what if Fetterman sat on her to make sure she waited at the scene for the cops to arrive?
You must live in a very isolated area to call that stretch of highway, treacherous.
She was driving an Impala?!
I think around 2020 was the last year for Impalas. Nice cars, especially the ones with the V6. 👍
No, we have our share of Interstates with daily serious crashes.
Hancock Maryland is a nasty weave in which all NB/SB traffic and all EB/WB traffic has to weave left to right (or right to left) in less than a mile.
Only thing similar that I know of is the I-80/I-90 weave at Lake Station, Indiana but there everyone is weaving at lower speeds.
He wasn’t even cited for reckless driving, distracted driving. Not even an explanation of how he slammed into another vehicle, rear-ending them with such force it could have been fatal to the occupants. Nothing...zip.
And now they will go after his wallet. I I were a famous person I’d watch everything I’d do, they are out there and yes, he’s at fault but it won’t be the same as you and I at fault. It’s ’easy street’ like in Annie.
I had an Impala. 1970s version. Loved that little car.
All Johnny boy got was a slap on the wrist. Disgraceful.
The air bag computer in Fetterman’s car would tell exactly how fast he was going. I bet they never read it.
