The world's oldest living man has declared he has no "special secrets" to pass on about his longevity as he celebrated turning 112.

John Tinniswood, who was born in Liverpool on 26 August 1912, told the Guinness World Records he had "no idea at all" why he had lived so long.

The lifelong Liverpool fan, who lives at a care home in Southport, became the world’s oldest living man in April when 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez Mora died.

He said he had been "quite active as a youngster" and did "a lot of walking", but believed he was "no different" to anyone else, adding: "You either live long or you live short and you can’t do much about it."

Mr Tinniswood, who was born the year the Titanic sank, said he would be taking turning 112 "in my stride like anything else".

The world's oldest living man is a Brit, Freepers.

This is incredible.

He was born the year Titanic sank and was 27 when WW2 started.

He retired in 1972.

The greatest generation!

Some of you are a spring chicken compared to this guy 🤣

Also interesting he didn’t offer any reason usually there is an angle in these stories (a tale of some kind)

I had to double check if he was old enough to avoid the draft for World War 2.

He wasn’t... 18-30 was the law but still amazing to even think about that 🫨

Conscription I meant *

I thought he might have been over the age but it was up to age 30 and later extended to up to 40 years old.

The point is: It’s crazy I had to even check that...

Even 100 amazes me. The stories they tell are incredible, especially the war veterans.

Interestingly, he was a bookkeeper.
That is rather sedentary work.

“Interestingly, he was a bookkeeper.

Interestingly, the people I’ve known who’ve lived the longest have been rather sedentary. The ones who haven’t been have died younger. And the annoying church-lady sanctimonious exercisers have gone even sooner.

Have we been bamboozled?

I think diet is way more important than exercise — just MHO, and judging by people I’ve known.

Imagine how many mistakes he learned from.
A very wise man.

Yea very interesting he was 27 when you think of army recruitment I tend to think of (or associate) people younger...

I checked google and it says the military Act was 18-30 for conscription in the UK, later extended to 40 so he was in the ballpark to not have to be called up which prompted me.

The fact that we’re discussing it and checking is crazy on its own 😂

I hope he enjoys his special, special day.

He was a walker. He walked regularly. Walking is way underrated.

Anecdotal: The VA diagnosed a heart blockage in spring 2005. Talked about surgery, etc. Went back to work and walked 1 mile each way to work and back 7 days a week (not uphill). And it was in Baghdad heat. Went back in December -no blockage and no surgery.

I’ve always believed that there are three things that determine a long life. Genetics, how well you take care of yourself, and blind luck. Two out of the three things you can’t do anything about.

It would be interesting to see what science says about life
and longevity. My dad was 92 when he died and I didn't see
any thing specifically that would have extended his life. He
did smoke and drink a little wine at times but that wasn't a
big factor in his daily routine. I think that daily routines
apply a lot to how long a person lives. jmo, take care.

Years ago I had a work colleague who was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and subsequent Japanese imprisonment for the duration of the war. Had horrible stories to tell. Anyhow, he told me that the lean, muscular, fit, athletic types were the first to perish with the privations.

True.

Dad died at 86. He was very active but didn’t “do exercise”. Preacher —no drinking or smoking.

Mom died at 99 (she would have turned 100 today 😪). Also no drinking or smoking — or exercise. She was definitely sedentary, and didn’t shy away from desserts, carbs etc. She did take a lot of supplements.

Genes ...?
