It's about taking advantage of a historical moment in time. That's the long-view.
Do you even remember the RNC convention? Most people have forgotten it by now. Harris has the momentum coming out of last night's conclusion of the DNC convention. Kennedy's announcement today was timed to deflate that momentum. He did so this morning in a dark corner of a conference room (as far as I could tell). President Trump's tease of a "surprise guest" was designed to build anticipation to get the most eyeballs on this event as possible.
All I'm saying is that Kennedy had the eyes on him that he was complaining about, and he forgot to say "I support President Trump and I want my supporters to vote for him" in front of THIS crowd and televised audience at THIS historic moment.
This was a moment you don't get to do over.
