Instead of locking up the serial shoplifters, looters, and rioters who destroyed many of Chicago's supermarkets and grocery stores, the city government wants to own a grocery store.

Of course the city sees the need to own a service, after allowing private operators to be driven out.

An Anthony Robbins interview in the 1990s had a visiting Russian saying to an American businessman: “Your government food distribution network centers are far superior in America to what we have.” Meaning, warehouses, truckers and supermarket chains under capitalism.
Now there will be government centers.

The taxpaying citizens in the area will be funding these types of ventures. And when they start to collapse, the costs will be passed along to the whole state and then the Federal government.
People seem to be fine with the government stealing and devaluing their money, or else people would be swinging.

“Grocers are typically unwilling to take the market risk that these neighborhoods present. In the absence of private sector action or commitment to provide sustainable grocery options, it is necessary for the City to play a role in creating and sustaining grocery services in neighborhoods that lack grocery access,” the report said.
yep, changing the risk is a novel idea.

This had to happen. Insane city policies created food deserts. So what to do? Can’t change those policies! So let’s get the government into the retail grocery business instead.
Democrat city governments are a hellish combination of corrupt and incompetent. So this initiative will either fail miserably or be crazy expensive.

“a feasibility study”
Just how much $$$ was wasted on another “study.” As Rush often states, I will do the study for half the price. Lock up, and publicly geld a few of the looters, and things will improve.

Exactly. Don’t fix the problem; slap a band-aid on it!
