Soviet Union ... even after communism, stores were set up like this:
Armed security at the door. You go up to the counter, tell the clerk what you want and they get it out for you, weigh it, tag it, give you a ticket and meet you up front at the cash register.
You don’t touch your stuff until after you pay for it.
And then on to the next shop.
You could also go to the farmer’s market where they had partial carcasses hanging up at room temperature and there again you tell the clerk how much and what you want.
SIL hosted an American Thanksgiving dinner for friends while they were in Russia and bought a WHOLE turkey. And the butcher said, “Good grief [Russian equivalent] who the heck buys a WHOLE turkey??”
Being a mom and homemaker over there was more than a full-time job. Not sure we are up to the Communist model.
You don’t have to go as far away as the Soviet Union, why just 90 miles from
Key West there are plenty of Govt run grocery stores in Cuba! And just take a look at how well that’s going.
It will be HEAVILY subsidized to cover all the SHRINK.. loss of merchandise that was taken and never paid for.
Show trials, ‘show’ primaries, and now state run grocery stores. Yeah, that’s the old USSR.
Chicago’ a hellhole.
Maybe if the mayor faced up to the truth it would help - lots of black citizens in Chicago in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s weren’t hooked on stealing. When Michelle Obama was growing up on the South Side - her mom could walk to a grocery store. They had stores in the black communities in Chicago years ago.
Rather than teaching sexual kink in Chicago schools maybe teachers should try teaching “basic decency 101”...
