The same country she used to dislike saved Griner. Brought her back from a brutal Russian prison colony. And in a lot of ways, it humbled her. Suddenly she associates good things with the anthem she didn’t used to associate with it… in fact she owes her life and her freedom to the institutions she used to criticise

Yes, it took the loss of one’s freedom to learn.

I was pleasantly surprised by the display of patriotism by the Olympic participants. Many draped themselves in the flag. I wonder if it was genuine or a marketing ploy?

You think they would have done it if Trump was in the White House?

Likely marketing of themselves and their brand and just “the thing to do at the Olympics when you win”. I do think some athletes, though, do care about their country, but not all.

Think of the 1968 Olympics where black American athlete metal winners were holding up the black power sign. Also at the same Olympics George Foreman carried a little American flag in the ring when he won his metal. She is now looking at the United States in a different way.

There’s a reason the Russians kept Griner in a male prison

Being able to participate in the Olympics, she also OWES the US taxpayers who foot the bill!

With the Woke City way things are going these days, it won’t be long before we have a Navy ship named USS Brittney Griner.
