But NATO can’t do much about it if Russia elects to use tactical nukes on their own territory. The Ukrainians holding the territory may have been sent on a particularly nasty suicide mission.
Winds blow West to East. I seriously doubt Russia wants to destroy and irradiate part of its own country. Plus they need this area as a transportation hub for their forces in Ukraine.
OTOH, after just 6 days, I have no idea if Ukraine can hold onto this salient long term. We’d need a lot more analysis of the logistics of this.
My guess would be Russia can assemble the forces needed to push them out.
Does either army have an opportunity to encircle the other?
Belarusian troops are mobilizing on the Uke border. Putin just announced a major speech tomorrow evening. The Ukes are droning their nuke plant again. I’m pretty sure it’s about to get real now.
Tactical nukes used any where will trigger full scale strategic nukes - Putin is not that dumb as he, his clan and family, will all perish.

Russia has two full divisions to the northwest.
If they could move them, they could cut off the Ukrainian force.

No war game or gaming scenario has ever shown that unless both parties have them. So, yes, if the US or Russia was to use tactical nukes on the other, we would definitely have a conflagration. TEOTWAWKI.
However, if the US were to use tactical nukes in Venezuela or Cuba...or Russia were to use them in Ukraine...everybody else would stand aside.
It’s amusing to watch folks who believe the US would undertake existential nuclear war...over Ukraine. A place where we have no interests whatsoever.

If Russia (or any other nuclear power) were to use nuclear weapons inside their own borders, I am absolutely certain it would ignite an apocalyptic, worldwide firestorm of political rhetoric in retaliation. And economic sanctions (of course)...

NATO has never announced such a thing, nor has any nuclear power country.
NATO has stated on multiple occasions, individually and collectively they would only engage Russian forces if they attack a NATO member.
Wouldn’t those all be prime targets for urgent destruction by the Ukes if they could bring some weapons to bear upon them? And then, thereafter, return to regularly wreak destruction n those Russian supply chokepoints? THAT could bring the fighting on the Eastern front to a true standstill and perhaps force a more plausible end to this on terms both would live with.
