Ukraine aims to ‘destabilise Russia’ with thousands of troops in Kursk incursion
Guardian ^ | August 11, 2024 | Wire Reports

Thousands of Ukrainian troops are taking part in an incursion aiming to destabilise Russia by showing up the country’s weaknesses, a top official from Ukraine has said as the assault entered its sixth day.

“We are on the offensive. The aim is to stretch the positions of the enemy, to inflict maximum losses and to destabilise the situation in Russia as they are unable to protect their own border,” the security official said on condition of anonymity.

Russia’s army had said about 1,000 Ukrainian troops were deployed in the cross-border incursion that began on Tuesday and appeared to catch the Kremlin off guard, allowing Ukraine’s forces to penetrate Russian defensive lines. Asked whether the 1,000 figure was correct, the official said: “It is a lot more … Thousands.”

After days of official silence, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, acknowledged the offensive for the first time on Saturday, saying that Kyiv was “pushing the war into the aggressor’s territory”.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and has waged an unrelenting offensive, occupying swathes of eastern and southern Ukraine and subjecting Ukrainian cities to daily missile and drone attacks.

After recapturing large areas in 2022, Ukrainian forces have largely been on the back foot and are increasingly struggling with manpower and arms supplies. But Ukrainian units stormed across the border on Tuesday in what has been, so far, the largest and most successful such offensive by Kyiv in the conflict.

Six days in, still no meaningful Russian response to the invasion of Russian territory. Putin's red lines have been shattered - he is a paper tiger. Putin-bots stunned.

Is this the beginning of a successful Uke pushback, or just another Ardennes Offensive?

I understand but I don’t understand. What do the Ukrainian troops plan to do? Keep the territory? Now what?

I’m not saying your sarcasm is misplaced. But imagine the feeling Americans would have if the Mexican Army has been occupying American territory for six days with no apparent ‘meaningful response’.

Regardless of the outcome the war, this does not make Russia/Putin look strong or masterful.

Tit-for-tat.

Ukraine says, you take 20% or our country, we take 20% of your country. Fair is fair. Even trade. (Yeah, I know Russia is much larger).

Why, they’ll annex Kursk Oblast into Ukraine! What else?

Gosh, that would be even better than the D@mocrat's genius plan to 'destabilise' Egypt and Libya! Russia has a nuclear arsenal - what could possibly go wrong?

Ukraine has taken a crew of of their best troops combined with other highly skilled foreign soldiers and put together a well planned and well supported offensive in an area that was not fortified by the Russians.

The area is strategic because the Ukrainians are in a position to assault an operational nuclear power plant.

The goal seems to be to demonstrate that the Ukrainian forces have some fight left in them to shore up foreign support, to try to gain some leverage with both NATO and the Russians for a potential cease fire agreement and to try to draw NATO directly into the conflict.

It is the equivalent of Hitler's Battle of the Bulge offensive in WWII. We shall see how it works out for them

Possible outcomes They run wild in Russia for a time causing a lot of damage and then withdraw. They overextend, get cut off and are eventually destroyed in detail. They capture the power plant, perhaps with significant damage and things get interesting.

Is it Ukraine or is it the American-led deep state?

Battle of the Bulge lasted about five weeks. It has been SIX DAYS.

I give the Ukes about 2-3 weeks max before supplies are exhausted.

FYSA, The German force for the Battle of the Bulge, also known as Wacht am Rhein, involved more than one million soldiers across three armies. UKES are but a pinprick.

For a deeper understanding of the proxy war being waged right now, the US and Russia, consider that the Ukes/ZelenskySky are the Deep State Cabal.

This was recently highlighted at the end of the RNC convention during the balloon drop.

An dramatic introduction to this understanding can be easily gleaned with a side-by-side comparison of the balloon drop and the ending of a Tom Clancy novel/movie.

Not sure the Ukrainian’s have the resources to keep this up for very long.

Unless they take the power plant I’m not sure what was gained and this may just end up being a one way trip if they are not careful. .

Oh please. How did that work out 2015-2020? Trump will be mostly powerless like he was before.
