Over 76,000 people have been evacuated from Russia's Kursk region, the local emergency ministry said.
Russia evacuates 76,000 people from its border region of Kursk as Ukrainian troops advance into its territory in the largest incursion on Russian soil since the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Russia's Ministry of Defence released footage on Saturday showing what it claims to be tanks, troops and artillery systems deployed to the country's western region of Kursk in a bid to fight off Ukrainian armed forces that stormed the area early this week.
The Kremlin released other footage claimed to show helicopters, fighter jets and drones striking targets in forested areas.
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with government officials to discuss the looming situation in Kursk, where a swift and bruising Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk region on Tuesday exposed the Kremlin's vulnerabilities.
“Good day, dear colleagues, on today’s agenda for the operational meeting with the permanent members of the security council is a very important question regarding specific aspects of the fight against terrorism,” he said at the Moscow meeting.
Shortly after the meeting, the three regions bordering Ukraine — Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk — declared they would carry out counter-terrorist operations. Russia also declared a federal emergency over the attack.

“Makes sense to evacuate civilians, if any of your contingency plans include tactical nukes.”
The red line was crossed. Now Russia is going to nuke Russia. Be very afraid.
What goes around comes around
They evacuated a most if not all the population.
It sets up the scenario for the Russians to drop some of their big vacuum bombs.
Whoever is involved in this mindless incursion will have their guts sucked right out their mouths.
Who’s gonna say what? It’s Russian territory with enemies on their ground. So they can dispatch of the enemy as they see fit.
One or two of those 40 thousand pounders will end them and their little fantasy totally.
Slava Putinescu !
Why don’t you ever post about anything other than Russia-Ukraine?
Answer: Because you’re a foreigner that wants Uncle Sugar to bail you out of your Russian conundrum.
“Pound Sand” because it isn’t happening.
I don’t care about Ukraine or Russia.....not even a little.
What country are you from? and Why don’t you ever talk about US domestic issues?
Working backwards, that shows the means to defend the supply lines that have to exist support the operation.
Zeeper! Zeeper!
Russia would not evacuate tens of thousands if Ukraine was already losing the battle. The forces evacuating local populations are not fighting Ukrainians.
The reason they are not fighting the Ukrainians is because the Russian MOD has not implemented its main response to the incursion, if they have one.
Since I'm used to the name calling I'll get, I'll just sit back and watch.

The Ukraine threads are the only places on FR where one side is “allowed” to call people on the other side any vile name they can think of. But if it’s pointed out that they are lovers of Putin, that person gets slammed.
Go figure.
I can sympathize! When the war started, I pointed out that the Budapest Memorandum did not require a military response by the United States - and I was called vile names by the Ukrainian patriots. I noted that Ukraine was not a NATO member state, and that the US was not obligated to defend the country - and I was called more vile names by the same people. And when I suggested that Ukraine was no more of a vital US interest in 2022 than it was in 1982 or 1992, I was insulted repeatedly (with 'Putin lover' being one of the more common epithets, IIRC ;^).
Maybe I should have ignored the insults - after all, some of the most egregious offenders were obviously unhinged. One Ukrainian fanatic who was apparently also a US military special weapons expert actually volunteered to fly over and assemble nuclear weapons for Ukraine ("In 10 weeks I will have the ukes suited in suitcase nukes and the Russians will gladly be leaving all their weapons and claims over the Ukes behind. Cheap thrills." - and yes, I do have the link).
I think that lunatic insulted me a couple dozen times in a single thread (might have a link to that one somewhere, too); kind of wondered if he was on meth, given the rate he posted insults! But then (thank God) he dropped out of sight, probably after a visit from the military police or FBI. Hopefully he's locked up somewhere - talk about "loose cannons"!
;>)
Yeah…Moderation on these threads is non existent. Unless you pay in rubles.

Update on the conflict in Ukraine for August 11, 2024…
- Ukraine’s “offensive” into Kursk, Russia was another example of Kiev’s costly public relations campaigns, this time designed to prove Ukraine can “bring the war to Russian soil;”
- In reality, Ukraine expended manpower and equipment it does not have to spare, as well as stretching its already struggling logistical network;
- Additional attempts by Ukraine to appear strong as its strategically collapses include alleged special military operations in Africa aimed at undermining Russian security cooperation in the region;
- Ukraine’s suggested involvement in military operations in Mali resulting in the death of government troops has resulted in the severing of relations between Mali and Niger with Ukraine;
- “Ukrainian” operations worldwide provide cover for what are likely Western activities conducted by proxy against Russia just as it does against Chinese interests around the globe and is doing in Ukraine against Russia, which itself is a proxy war;
