Someone does not want the tourists and their money to come back to Maui?
There probably isn't a better way to achieve that then by leaving a lot of bombs lying around, disguised as common objects, which is the strange, sinister development in that fire-ravaged part of Hawaii.
According to the Beat of Hawaii, Hawai'i Travel News website:
Cherished Maui, on the first anniversary of the tragic Lahaina fire, is experiencing the report of significant safety concerns due to the discovery of potential explosive devices just reported by the FBI. There have been other suspected incidents reported on Maui since last year.
Update at 11:40 pm. There have been reports of an explosion about two hours ago in Pukalani. We don’t know yet if this is related to the earlier report.
The FBI and Maui Police Department are together investigating several incidents involving Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) found in public areas, and the Kahului and Pukalani regions were specifically mentioned. Although no injuries have occurred, this situation led to a public safety warning being issued this afternoon, which is important to both residents and visitors.
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are homemade bombs that can, by intention, cause harm, disrupt safety, and instill fear. The devices can be made using a wide range of materials, from simple household items to more sophisticated elements. IEDs can vary greatly in appearance, which can be a source of confusion. They might resemble common objects, including baskets or bags, making them difficult to recognize.
Sound like the kind of place you'd like to visit?

Wowie!
The natives are restless.........................
Many on Maui have gone mental.
The sudden and total destruction of an entire , beloved and historic , irreplaceable, town , drove them over the brink of mental soundness.
These IEDs might have something to do with that trauma. Lots of angry people on Maui . People whose lives and loved ones were ripped from them and will never be the same .
Coupled with the sovereignty thing...
Not for the tourists. Might want to ask Oprah or Zuck about them.
The Devil loves chaos. World government is obliging. We need a serious world-wide revival.
If Steve McGarrett and his Five-0 were in charge, this wouldn’t be happening.
Yeah, are these like the pipe bombs on Jan 6?
I lived in Hawaii for 29 years, 361 days. I watched the sad decline from the seventies into the 21st century.
Never going back.

Her land is up in the hills with no public water or sewer, far from shopping, schools, workplaces etc. it’s not a good place for dense housing.
What’s up with Oprah and Wall Street investors buying land in Maui:

I am from Hawaii, but left . Its not sustainable for middle class and lower people to live there. Hawaii is considered a nice place to live, so you are going to get mainlanders and foreign real estate investment including Oprah. Houses and condos are being priced out for regular people. The job market is mostly lower wage, as people with degrees ( tech, healthcare, engineering) leave the state. That is the reality.
It’s one giant bunker to try to escape Trump!
Thanks for the feedback.
What you documented is happening around America in the high end real estate markets.

This looks like part of the nativist Hawaiian secession movement to me. They don’t want haoles there. Period. They want to retake the islands, by force if necessary. When incidents are reported to police, folks find it strangely difficult to get any help.
I saw recent news story that the planning commission on Maui adopted an anti-short term rental ordinance to prevent Airbnb or VRBO guests from crowding their island. Oahu is beyond repair at this point, but the Lahaina fire created a great opportunity to re-write the rules on Maui.
Several friends served in Hawaii.. and left never to return.
They did not have a good experience
The issue is those short term rentals would never be affordable for the average resident in Maui, who work at low wage tourism jobs. Those Hawaiian activists who want to get rid of those rentals to free up housing for themselves are deluded. Either the current owners will sell to a mainlander or foreign national, or the owners will not rent them out in the first place. They will not be landlords for long term rentals. Some of those units were built for tourism ( under previous laws which encouraged these units for tourism to be built), and therefore storage and space are minimal. All it’s going to do is impact tourism negatively which will kill the economy. No one with a family is going to want to pay for a small hotel room with no kitchen at the going rate of 400 a night. It would be cheaper to fly to Thailand or the Caribbean.
