There’s a good chance that his Artillery Unit was doing nuclear custodial duty, that is no picnic. I personally know 2 officers that performed that Italy duty (had lunch with 1 a year ago). But it was not a combat/war zone.

He was in the National Guard in Italy as backup support for real heroes in Iraq.

I doubt he was doing anything more there than pushing papers.

That’s interesting since the Army no longer has tactical nuclear weapons, and hasn’t since about 1990 when GHWB retired all of them.

He is old enough to have been in the Balkans while it was still a shooting war zone in the early 1990s people got combat service ribbons for Kosovo and the Balkans. I wonder if his Italian unit ever crossed the sea into that clusterF Clinton got us into. He certainly would have plenty of trigger time on the M16A2/3, M4 and M249 or 240 probably the M9 and M19 as well. He is of course referring to the M16 family which is similar to the civy AR platform in appearance but only LEO/MIL get the select fire post 1986 so not the same weapons system. Either way he is a gun grabbing commie which also proves about half the military are firmly lefties never forget that.
