'Harris's no 2 taught in China': Chinese internet reacts to Walz

Kamala Harris's vice-presidential pick Tim Walz has drawn attention halfway across the world in China.

Chinese social media users have been discussing how Mr Walz spent a year teaching in the south-eastern province of Guangdong in 1989 - a topic that was trending on Weibo with 12 million views.

He and his wife, fellow teacher Gwen Whipple, later honeymooned in the country.

Mr Walz once described his decision to teach in China as "one of the best things I've ever done".

He was fresh out of college when he moved to China to teach English and American history at a high school.

The fact that it happened in 1989 - the year of the Tiananmen Square massacre - was not lost on those commenting on Chinese social media.

When he returned to the US, he told a local newspaper that there were "no limits" on what the Chinese could accomplish "if they had proper leadership".

"They are such kind, generous, capable people," he said.

Mr Walz and his wife were married on 4 June 1994 - the fifth anniversary of the Tiananmen uprising. She said in an interview that "he wanted to have a date he'll always remember".

In and of itself, teaching in China isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It can be a way to experience a truly different culture. Ditto for honeymooning there; I’ve been to China and there are some truly incredible experiences to be had there.

Walz also wasn’t necessarily wrong to say that China could accomplish anything if it had the right leadership.

The difference comes in the attitudes, actions, and meanings around those actions. If he and his wife then went on to praise the Communist government even after returning (criticizing Communism or government leaders while you’re there is not particularly safe), and their idea of “right leadership” is an even more hard-line communist leader (which he likely does), then yes, he deserves all the condemnation.

The Chinese citizens aren’t the enemy; their government is.

Walz loves Communism—but he thinks the Chinese Commies did it wrong and he could do it better.

My point exactly. Call him out for the support of the ideology. Visiting a foreign country that isn’t a direct US ally isn’t a red flag when you’re a kid fresh out of college. Trying to make relatively innocent actions sound like full-throated support of a hostile regime just weakens the article.

I guess China was where the “white dude” picked up his love of communism.

Is he from a family that has the money and political connections where the Chinese Intel service would want to make an investment in him?

But I’m wondering overall what are people thinking of tampon Tim as the kackling VP? I haven’t heard much only jubilation from the mediapukes exulting their goddess the hyena and “cuddles “…..the mediaPARROS newest talking point. Tampon Tim has been labeled “cuddles!” What a freaking joke!

Well, most of the Dems act like they were “taught in Red China”, not that they actively “taught in Red China”.

“It can be a way to experience a truly different culture.”

You can get that experience everyday in big democrat cities...usually not a pleasant one though.

What a huge mistake on the part of Kommie Kameleon to pick this guy!!

Lots of peers bashing him from the NG and questions of misrepresentation of his rank. Did he evade deployment by retiring?

Refuses to stop the city of Minneapolis from burning as Governor.

Threatens to charge parents who do not offer their children up for genital mutilation and sex change!

Did I mention that he's a Red Diaper Baby who lived and honeymooned in China? Thinks communism is just "neighborliness".

Then his wife/komrad likes the smell of burning tires from Antifa riots! If he ever becomes VPOTUS or heaven forbid POTUS, will she be necklacing people with tires?

No I think the honeymoon period, if any, will be brief, and then we will be back in Trump mode.
