Harris picks Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for running mate

Vice President Kamala Harris has selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate, according to three sources with knowledge of the pick, adding a popular Midwestern state executive to the Democratic ticket as the party gears up to hold onto key Northern battleground states this fall.

In picking Walz, who's in his second term and also served 12 years in Congress, Harris will have as her No. 2 someone with a proven record of winning over white working-class voters in Rust Belt states while also boasting a robustly progressive record.

Democrats will hope that mix of attributes helps a Harris-Walz ticket shore up support in the onetime “blue wall” states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan — longtime Democratic strongholds at the presidential level that Donald Trump flipped in 2016 and Joe Biden flipped back in 2020. This year, they’ve been seen as Biden’s, and now Harris’, most viable path to victory.

Walz, 60, had initially been viewed as a long shot in a field of vice presidential contenders that included rising party stars, some of whom have been mentioned as future presidential candidates, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.

Why is this an error? Does it not target old whites in the Midwest?

So, then, it’s true:

The dems have officially abandoned the hard left.

Interesting, and will make the race even closer, within ‘cheat’ territory.

I wonder what 1/6/25 bodes should DJT staff pull off an ‘anti-cheat’ win...

I was a little disappointed in Trump’s pick of Vance. Vance would make a good VP. But I couldn’t see how he could help in the electoral vote count this November.

So it’s Harris/Walz on the D side. I feel much better now.

All the Trump campaign needs to do is send some little kids to visit Walz.

He will almost certainly expose himself to them.

The guy is ultra creepy.

Color me surprised. I thought for sure Kamala the Hooker would have picked Josh Shapiro, since the formal announcement was planned for a rally in Philadelphia.

Of course, Shapiro’s Jewish & contradicts the far left’s hatred of Jews & Israel. But he would have helped Kamala the Hooker win Pennsylvania.

But then, Walz is a lot farther left than even Shapiro. He’s in Kamala the Hooker territory, in terms of his political beliefs & policies. Farther to the left than even Bernie Sanders, or Barack Obama.

And Minnesota isn’t even in play. It hasn’t voted for a Republican nominee since Richard Nixon. Even in 1984, when Reagan won 49 states, the Democrats won Minnesota.

Kamala the Hooker must be absolutely sure that the fix is in. So she’s going for ideological purity.

The rumor is that Shapiro turned her down—imho because he was afraid for himself and his family with insane Pali protesters and a DEI watered down Secret Service.

Four years from now the Palis may calm down and the Secret Service may finally figure out that DEI means that the folks they protect may DIE.

But I couldn’t see how he could help in the electoral vote count this November.

To focus on the rust belt states - OH, MI, PA, WI, etc...

Minnesota was firmly behind Harris anyway. No electoral pickup selecting the fat bald guy.

Name recognition - none.

He is a Democrat, he is progressive, he will continue with the Democrat agenda in destroying America.

I wouldn’t underestimate the guy. He’ll do some good interviews on “The View.” He’s good at soundbites which will be their entire campaign. He also looks like the non-threatening type a lot of their voters watch on the Lifetime channel all day when they’re not out protesting for abortion.

An interesting pick meaning that the left is so antisemitic that picking Josh Shapiro would have put them in jeopardy of losing Minnesota.

I posit Josh Shapiro was the first choice - why she kept delaying the announcement. She knew muzzies wouldn’t like it one bit and Mark Kelly was off the table.
