Google loses massive antitrust lawsuit over its search dominance

New York CNN — Google has violated US antitrust law with its search business, a federal judge ruled Monday, handing the tech giant a staggering court defeat with the potential to reshape how millions of Americans get information online and to upend decades of dominance. The decision by the US District Court for the District of Columbia is a stunning rebuke of Google’s oldest and most important business. The company has spent tens of billions of dollars on exclusive contracts to secure a dominant position as the world’s default search provider on smartphones and web browsers.

What a weird year-—some of the worst laws or rulings, followed by some of the the best rulings I thought would never happen!

Yeah, but I believe they’re all routed through Google or AWS....One way or another they still control the flow of information.

Google needs to be taken down a notch... No, about 10 notches really.

The exclusive contracts make it overly difficult for other’s to grow.

I’ve been using alternative search engines on all my devices for quite a while now. Google can go to hell as far as I’m concerned.

I’d like to see someone rebuild Google circa 2010 when it was still a search engine. Now this ads and politics driven curated result sucks. They don’t even call themselves a search engine anymore... they call themselves a “decision engine”... meaning THEY decide what you should see.
I get somewhat better results from Bing and DuckDuckGo, but not always. And appallingly, if it’s heavily censored information, like dosing of Ivermectin for covid...Obama being a homosexual, etc. it’s always there on Yandex.

But it’s maddening that when I search for a site or story that I KNOW exists... and google will not serve it up, no matter how I curate search terms. Also Google results are massively skewed towards modern products. If you search for some WWII of Korean War term, no matter how you clarify it, they fill the results with idiotic thinks like some modern music act, or some advertiser’s product that uses the same acronym.
Google is essentially useless anymore. And can’t remember the name but there is some search engine you pay a small monthly fee to use and I hear some people saying it’s worth every penny.

I don’t do anything with google, at home or at work, and haven’t for awhile-I don’t even care if the alternative is not as comprehensive. I wiped all the “free” google and microsoft crap off of my work computer-and my new laptop as soon as I cranked it up, paying no attention to the warnings of are you sure you want to delete, etc.

Google needs to be dismembered like Ma Bell was...

No equivalent for Google Streetview, yet. Also, I don't see a Windows Desktop version of Apple Maps, which is the next best. Rumble has a ways to go. I use it when I can. Brave search is pretty bad.
