JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Members of the Jackson City Council have called for the Texaco gas station on Medgar Evers Boulevard to be shut down.
Councilman Brian Grizzell, Ward 4, said residents in his ward have called him to express their concerns about the gas station. A man was shot and killed at the gas station on Saturday.
The gas station is located in Ward 3, which is under Councilman Kenneth Stokes. He has called for the gas station to be closed.
Grizzell said he’s started the process to declare the gas station a public nuisance.
“You know that store kind of anchors both Wards 4 and 3 and is very close to where I live. And a lot of nights, I hear the gunshots. When I pull out to go to work in the morning, I see the blight. And even with it being one of the newest areas, one of the newest buildings in the area, and with us investing so much money into that Medgar Evers corridor, things have got to change,” said Grizzell.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said he plans to visit the store personally in the coming days to talk with the owner.
“We’re going to address it holistically. And what I challenge my team with all the time, we’re not looking for a Band-Aid approach. We’re looking for something more sustainable and a holistic approach,” said Wade.
Grizzell said the process starts with collecting the history of code violations and violent crimes. He hopes to have enough evidence that the Council can declare the gas station a safety hazard.
Insanity. Why blame the business for the criminality of the local people?
“We’re looking for something more sustainable and a holistic approach”
That is politician talk for “this is a dumpster fire and we are toast”.
Gas station desert coming.
Ban AR-15s and gas stations. They cause crime. I wonder why the no bail thing or midnight basketball thing never worked.
It is the gas station's fault. It is the gun's fault.
Pray for President Trump.
[Grizzell said he’s started the process to declare the gas station a public nuisance.]
Yeah, I’m guessing it’s not the gas station that is the “public nuisance”.................
“I pull out to go to work in the morning, I see the blight. “
Closing the station will only increase the blight ...
Gas station bad. Lock up this serial criminal.
When I lived in Winston-Salem NC, there were some gas stations owned by black Muslim brothers. Someone tried to rob one of them and got a whole 9mm clip put in his azz. They interviewed the owner and he said he would put another clip into the next person who tried to rob the store. End of story.
Hey kids, notice all this blight?
The first problem I see is that they named the street “Medgar Evers Boulevard”.

Truth in advertising?
How about just shut down all the businesses and call it a “food desert?”
[we’re not looking for a Band-Aid approach]
He said, while suggesting a Band-Aid approach instead of addressing the real problems.

This is a lol line:
“Chief Joseph Wade is a native of Terry, MS, and now resides in the City of Jackson. He is a highly motivated and energetic professional”
I think that is code for he is lazy and useless.
:-)
“What could it be?”
Convenience store run by Indians?
Go to Martin Luther King boulevard in any city. If you’re not in the sketchy part of town you’re damn close to it.

Of course the fact this place provides employment and tax revenues doesn’t seem to matter and the fact you would be taking someone’s ability to make a living away doesn’t seem to matter either. The Root Cause is lack of Law and Order not the business. Well guess those folks will have to dive a little further to the next business nuisance to get their Gas, Colt 45, and Newports.
