Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) opened the hearing into the Trump assassination attempt Tuesday by targeting “easy access to AR-15 rifles.”
Durbin began his comments by talking about movies and books depicting “the international assassin with sophisticated technology, elaborate plans, [and] well honed skills, [who] sets out to kill a leading political figure in the United States.
He quickly shifted gears to state that reality is quite different. In other words, the actual would-be alleged assassin was “a 20-year-old, introverted college student” who “outsmarted one of the most sophisticated American law enforcement agencies in history.”

My Mini-14 ranch rifle is a “normal” looking rifle. Fires the same ammo with the same accuracy. Libs are sooooo uh, well, pick a good insult. They’ll all work.

Anyone who would blame the AR is an idiot, it’s the individual who was the problem and the Federal assistance by incompetence (either planned or not).
The AR-15’s was a problem in a sense. It’s a poor choice for target wearing a vest to make a kill shot at 140 yards, because you need a head shot. He would have been better served with a hunting rifle, better optics, single shot, more accuracy. It’s really only going to be the first, or first two rounds that matter. Interesting that the kid would pick this gun to use, a DPMS AR-15, with .223, and not say something with a better penetration and accuracy like bolt action .308 or .306, both of which widely available in 5 rounds. If your going to use an AR style for a headshot, he should have used a 20 inch bull barrel, 1:7 twist, and 6.8spc or 6.5 Grendel IMHO. Just changing the upper, and using a 5 round magazine would have made it much more accurate in a prone position with low profile.
Being completely honest, the The Secret Service protection was so bad they probably could have come up and shot Trump with an antique derringer or black powder pistol. When people come to realize this, then we can get answers.

Really though. The democrats just want to know how they failed in their assassination attempt. Any hearing or “investigation” is to make sure they can get a good shot and get away with it in the future. When they said “BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY” they meant it.

A Mini-14 is a nice rifle, but I have never seen one as accurate as an AR type rifle.
