Biden set to unveil major Supreme Court reform plans next week

President Joe Biden is reportedly planning to unveil a dramatic Supreme Court reform next week in an attempt to overhaul the high court.

Two people familiar with the matter told Politico that the president is likely to endorse establishing term limits for justices, and bring in a code of ethics.

The 81-year-old is expected to push for an amendment that would limit immunity for presidents and other officeholders.

His amendment would come directly after the court ruled that presidents are shielded from prosecution for officials acts, in a case brought by Donald Trump.

It is said that Biden will call for the overhaul while on a trip to Texas, where he is set to speak at the Lyndon Baines Johnson presidential library in Austin.

The White House declined to comment, referring to remarks earlier this week from his press secretary that he believes the SC should be 'held to a high ethics'

After the court ruled on Trump's immunity case, Biden called the decision 'dangerous' and said it would embolden Trump if the Republican is reelected.

He warned that the conservative-leaning court 'fundamentally changed' a bedrock principle of the nation.

Biden said: 'This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America.

'Today's decision almost certainly means that there are virtually no limits on what a president can do.

'This is a fundamentally new principle and it's a dangerous precedent. The only limits will be self-imposed by the president alone.'

The Court's 6-3 ruling practically insured that Trump wouldn't face another trial before the November election.

Biden called the decision a continued 'attack' on 'wide range of long established legal principles,' pointing to the reversal of Roe v. Wade and controversial decisions on civil and voting rights.

Or as a lame duck he can propose anything without political ramification. Look for this to bring out dem voters. The target audience is the young skulls full of mush to quote a legend. Biden has a bit of sympathy vote. The youngsters will eat it up

The irony.

First try it out on yourself and the House and Senate and see how it works out.

When the kinks are worked out, then we can talk about the SCOTUS.

They’re evil, not stupid.

The people pushing this know that they have an historically weak candidate, and they desperately need people talking about anything but Kamala.

Plus it ties into their fake outrage over Dobbs “Supreme Court Bad” has been their rallying cry for years now. Of course, they’re not really upset over Dobbs...it’s given them a huge bump in fundraising and an issue that they can run on in Blue states for the foreseeable future.

Pure focus-group electoral cynicism on full display.

I see three proposals in this article.

1. Term limit the Justices of the Supreme Court
2. Create an enforceable code of ethics for the Justices of the Supreme Court
3. Amend the Constitution to remove the presidential immunity recently outlined by the Supreme Court

It looks like only one is looking for an amendment. The other two can be done with congressional legislation, right? And I’m not sure why codifying presidential immunity requires an amendment, except to make it bullet-proof in the future.

Not in this article is anything about changing the size of the SCOTUS, which has been done in the past.

Am I reading this right or wrong?

Should a congresswoman have immunity to call Netanyahu a “war criminal”?

Can anybody justify that?

A stupid question.

Yes they should, as should anyone who supports the 1st amendment to the constitution.

I mean, he does if it’s signing legislation from Congress.

Joe Biden is the lamest of lame ducks. If he does this, its because the powers that be want to get it done with Joe Biden’s fingerprints on it. It’s a set up.

Republicans should pounce ...

... and demand term limits for Members of Congress as well.

I would support that. We can debate separately the appropriate limit. I tend to favor longer limits. YMMV. But the biggest problem is the congressman for life racket, which is what has produced the grotesque corruption and arrogance of the democrat leadership. This is much less of a problem in the GOP because the congressional Republicans have been operating as a circular firing squad ever since Newt Gringrich and Dick Armey, who had been a great team through the mid-1990’s, hit their sell-by date.
