Ecuador’s Navy announced the start of a campaign to protect the Galápagos Islands from the predatory practices of Chinese illegal fishing vessels that have, for years, endangered their maritime biodiversity.
The announcement comes shortly after the conclusion of Galapex III, a series of multinational naval training exercises designed to fight illegal fishing that the Ecuadorian Navy hosted from June 23 to July 9. The navies of the United States, Canada, South Korea, Italy, Spain, and neighboring nations — such as Colombia and Peru — participated.
“The problem is that the number of foreign fishing vessels reaches a point where they begin to plunder ecosystems,” frigate captain Guillermo Miranda told Reuters. “When they fish, they affect really migratory species, which in many cases are part of the Galápagos marine ecosystem. It’s a pretty serious problem, not just for Ecuador.”
Every year, a fleet of roughly 400 Chinese illegal fishing vessels sail through the waters of the Pacific and South Atlantic Oceans, pillaging local fish stocks through mass depredation, causing significant damage to local ecosystems, and polluting the seas by dumping manmade waste.
The predatory practices of the Chinese fishing vessels also cause economic damage to the local fishing trade of Latin American nations — such as Ecuador, Peru, and Argentina. The overexploitation of fishing grounds by the Chinese vessels prevents fish species and mammals — such as whales — from approaching the coasts of Chile and Argentina, disrupting local food chains.

The crews and captains need to be arrested and the ships sunk.
By many accounts they are basically strip mining fish.
Until these areas start firing warning shots accross their bow.
And follow up with bording and seizing. It is unlikely they will stop.
I’ve seen estimates of 17,000 illegal Chicom fishing vessels, operating within other countries exclusive economic zones.
At the risk of sounding war-mongering, shouldn’t WE be helping enforce the Monroe Doctrine here?

Monroe? Yes. Guyana can pay us with oil vs. Maduro. What does Ecuador have?
So start sinking them. They have 2 German 209 subs, two missile frigates with 4.5 inch guns, 6 or 7 Missile and 3 inch gunned Corvettes.
Not much point in having a Navy if you let fleets of 400 ships plunder your waters.
Apparently a rather good one. They even have two very quiet German 209 Diesel subs. They have a couple of powerful missile Frigates and 6 well set up Corvettes.
They also have 9 Kfir/Mirage clones.....

Request they pull in all nets, they have 6 hours. Then leave or they will be sunk on the spot. Don’t let them FAFO.
Sink them on sight. If they want to go to war over it, so be it.

If Ecuador sinks or boards one or more of these and Xi sends a couple of Destroyers to protect the rest your question will come to the fore. I think the answer from Harris or Biden will be the same, though for different reasons. Nothing beyond a mild protest.

Ecuador would lose fast against China. Otoh those fleets don’t go out alone. They have naval escorts. I still encourage Ecuador to defend it’s territory.
Sink them all.
