Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) plans to resign effective Aug. 20, according to two people briefed on the decision, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.
The longtime Democratic lawmaker was convicted on July 16 of taking bribes from three businessmen who showered him and his wife with cash, gold bars and a Mercedes-Benz, an extravagant bounty for his help securing deals with foreign officials and trying to derail several criminal investigations in New Jersey.

So much for Biden staying around to get things done in the last 6 months as a lame duck. His majority in the Senate is weak and the GOP holds the House. So should we expect a rash of executive actions by his unknown handlers?

As I understand it, that gives Dem Guv Murphy a chance to give Dem candidate Andy Kim a boost by naming him as interim senator.

We will have to see. There are lots of Trump supporters in NJ. I am hoping that across the Nation down ballot spots will flip.

There’s that, plus the fact that Menendez won’t be splitting the D vote (every little bit would have helped) in November. The GOP picking up a Senate seat in NJ (like Hogan in MD) was always very unlikely. Without Menendez’ interference, the NJ Senate is now pretty safe for the Rats and probably was anyway.
Yeah we were sort of happy when Cuomo resigned but Hochul hasn’t been an upgrade in any way other than maybe not sexually harassing staff.
Buh bye crooked Bob. It’s only a few months early as he was due to be replaced in November. Will he get to keep the gold bars to buy smokes in jail?
