As I understand it, that gives Dem Guv Murphy a chance to give Dem candidate Andy Kim a boost by naming him as interim senator.
Up to now it has been a relatively close race for NJ:

There’s that, plus the fact that Menendez won’t be splitting the D vote (every little bit would have helped) in November. The GOP picking up a Senate seat in NJ (like Hogan in MD) was always very unlikely. Without Menendez’ interference, the NJ Senate is now pretty safe for the Rats and probably was anyway.
It won’t be close on Election Day.
