Nope, that doesn't work. There were LOTS of folks there that were "unfamiliar" with security and they easily spotted the perp on the roof with a gun.
That's just more meaningless chaff to pile on the cover-up.
Was there ever such a thing as a “temp” security guard brought in from some other police field?
The authorities knew for close to a half hour - if not longer - that there was a suspicious character on site. How and why was President Trump allowed to walk on that stage with the information that was already known?
At the very least, heads need to roll over this communication failure. At its worst, some necks need to suffer from rope burns.

SS is a department under the umbrella of Homeland Security. He meant that some of Trump’s detail were from another department under Homeland Security and were not actually Secret Service.
The Bushies started Homeland Security and now we can see that it wasn’t a very good idea.

If this is true and the convention SS detail tall, stout men makes this more probable than most people realize. Trump has kicked the democrats provide SS to the curb.
There is going to be more curb kicking once he is elected. These vile people tried to kill him and his demeanor has changed. President Trump is pissed. Really pissed.

I hate being fair to these people, but Cheatle needed to be at the convention to observe her SS team in action, show that she was in command, and make darned sure SS agents weren’t in the cloak room with hookers and “DEI Digest” or otherwise failing. Plus, Mayorkas probably ordered her to show the flag to forestall the inevitable criticism if she didn’t.
Cheatle literally running away from questions might not have been the image he hoped for...

Americans desperately need these theories; if we learn that our agencies are staffed with bumbling mediocrities, we'll start thinking that maybe we're just as mediocre as anyone else, and that we suffer the effects of original sin just like everyone else in the world does.
(And if we're in the "greatest country in the world", then we certainly can't have that.)

I've never heard of it happening, especially when the people brought in, weren't even actual Secret Service agents, but TSA agents. That's crossing over into a totally different agency. That's like taking a Border Patrol Officer and sticking them in an airport for a day or two, processing travelers. It would be a breach of security. The other thing is that it may violate Federal law, Civil Service Law, and/or Federal Labor Law.
I worked in NY State Corrections. There's no way that any other uniformed State employee such as a member of Park Police, Campus Police, or State Police would be allowed to cross-over and work in another agency's slot, even temporarily. I was a Peace Officer. They are all Police Officers. I could carry a weapon on the job, and off, purchase weapons on my badge. I had to qualify each year on the weapons the agency used in order to keep my Peace Officer status. When I retired, it ended.
I also found through a search that the majority of TSA officers are security officers, not police officers. They have no arrest authority and can't carry weapons, but there are some who are law enforcement officers, and can and do carry a weapon on their job. That still doesn't mean they can be pulled from one agency, and used in another. It never happens.
Still, it seems the shooter was more thorough than the SS.
Actually I heard it (DEA) early on. I don’t remember exactly but I think it was a former SS person as a guest on a news show. Actually later I believe it was stated they were from Homeland Security Investigations and that’s what is being said now. I don’t even know if that (that they were HSI) is official from the USSS/HS offices. Have they even addressed the issue? They are ridiculously silent as far as I know and I have been paying fairly close attention.
The whole thing is being left to practically nothing but speculation. We’ll see who shows up and answers questions from Congress.
