BETHEL PARK, Pa. – Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old would-be assassin who opened fire on former President Donald Trump's Pennsylvania campaign rally Saturday, hid the weapon in advance, according to a Secret Service source.
It was not immediately clear where he hid it, however. By the time agents spotted him on the roof, he was already holding it.
"We went from golf range finder to AR-15, and now we have to fill in the gap," the source told Fox News

He was seen near the checkpoint, but never tried to go through it.
He didn’t need to go through the checkpoint to access the roof.

The father gave him the gun that day to go to the shooting range (abcnews). He was expected back by 1pm. Assuming 2 hours for travel and target practice, it is plausible he had the gun by 11am, drove north for just over and hour (maybe 12 noon at the earliest), and had time to hide it without anybody seeing this happen? Where did he hide it, on the roof? Was that between noon and 3pm? Yes, 3pm matters because he has apparently trying to get through security and that is when they found the rangefinder.
If local police had responsibility only for traffic, who was managing the gate the shooter went through which set off the rangefinder incident? Was that gate an outer perimeter or inner perimeter gate? There are so so many questions.
How could he get in without going through the checkpoint? And when was he caught with the distance finder and labeled as suspicious?
I think I remember it was 3 days prior. The event was announced on July 4th.

I have no idea whether that is proven true or fake since I was 13 at the time-but I read and heard from my parents that story was told by the neighbor who gave Oswald a ride to work that day. And if you wrap a long gun in paper and tape it up neatly, it would look like a package containing curtain rods or some other household accessory of similar length...
