Democrats promptly attack Vance as abortion extremist and Trump loyalist
The Washington Post ^ | July 16, 2024 at 3:11 p.m. EDT | Yasmeen Abutaleb and Meryl Kornfield

The Biden campaign and Democratic leaders immediately pounced on Republican nominee Donald Trump’s selection of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate, seeking to paint the Republican ticket as out-of-touch and hostile to women in an effort to re-energize voters and boost President Biden’s candidacy after weeks of political turmoil.

Biden campaign officials had privately hoped for weeks that Trump would pick Vance, according to two Biden allies, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. Vance strongly opposed Trump in 2016 and for much of his first term before dramatically changing course and embracing Trump and sharply restrictive policies on abortion ahead of his 2022 Senate bid.

Both the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee immediately sought to raise money off the announcement on Monday — an effort that continued into Tuesday — and posted a flurry of videos and past statements on X and other social media platforms highlighting what they called Vance’s extreme positions. The DNC spent months conducting research and finding past videos of anyone who was discussed as a potential vice-presidential pick, one of the Biden allies said, and had focused in on Vance as he seemed to emerge as the favorite in recent weeks.

“Here’s the truth: J.D. Vance and Donald Trump have one guiding principle in common: themselves,” read a Biden campaign email sent on Tuesday that asked supporters for donations. “Vance echoes Trump’s baseless election denial lies. He compared abortion to slavery and wants to ban abortion nationwide. And he called gun violence 'fake problems’ and efforts to address it ‘a huge distraction.’”

The Los Angeles Times is a specious news source. Every word it publishes is either a lie or projection. Article presented for entertainment purposes only.

“Extremist”

Two days later and already back to the over-heated rhetoric.

So attack ads have started. So much for civility that Biden called for.

I’m sure JD Vance will be depicted soon as the homosexual rapist from the movie “Deliverance”.

It would be depressing to read the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and whatever rags you are reading.

It would be depressing to have so little to do that you spend your time looking for things to disparage.

When have the media ever praised a Republican candidate?

People think their reaction to what they see and hear must be wrong. They thought a speech was terrible, then the media says how great it is over and over.
On everything. Not one tiny bit of honesty for Republicans. They'll be critical of a Dem now and then to say hey, we call out both sides. But never has a Republican received positive reviews unless they RINOup.

Every idea will doom us. Every word is harsh tone. Always referred to as the far right Senator etc.
MAGA is a slur.

Journalism is dead. They don't hunger for the truth, excited to hunt down sources and unravel it.

Today it's simply how much hate can I show the audience and get them addicted to anger.

PS - Articles from the gaslight press get lots of comments, so other people are very interested in what the enemy has to say. If you prefer living in a bubble, be my guest.

They ruthlessly attacked Dan Quayle and Sarah Palin, driving them both from public life. Their candidate is a cackling whore.

Could someone please explain the whole Abortion red herring to me.

The Supreme Court has ruled that abortion is a “state issue” and not a federal issue. So how can the President or Vice President impose any conditions on abortion?

Roe v Wade said that the state has an increasing interest in the life of the unborn that increased until birth. Under this theory the state should not involve itself in the first trimester and in the third trimester the state has a much greater right to protect the life of the unborn. Remember the left is all upset that Roe v Wade was overturned and yet they feel it allowed unlimited abortion and that abortion was a federal right. You would think that the partial birth abortion fans would be overjoyed that Row v Wade was overturned.

Trump or Vance will not by themselves be able to pass laws making abortion more difficult. Congress passes such laws. The Supreme Court is not likely to reverse its position. So what exactly can Vance do in regards to abortion? What can Trump do in regards to abortion?

This is a focus group wedge issue that is not based on any rational arguments.
