Donald Trump has picked Ohio senator J.D. Vance as his running mate, choosing a grassroots favorite ahead of more seasoned political operators.
The former president left it until the last possible moment, using all his showman skills to leave the world guessing, before opting for 39-year-old Vance after the Republican National Convention had already begun in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Vance swept to national attention when he published his bestselling memoir 'Hillbilly Elegy,' in 2016, the year Trump was elected president.
He has been a senator for less than two years but has established himself as one of the fiercest defenders of Trump’s 'Make America Great Again' agenda, especially when it comes to foreign policy, trade and immigration.
The former venture capitalist and U.S. Marine had initially been critical of Trump.

The book explains how JD thinks he is the only person to rise out of hillbilly briar country. He got the culture right but failed to give every one else any credit for prospering despite it or because of it. The book while accurate in most aspects was extremely condescending to anyone raised in hillbilly/briar country.
I expect he will rule the same way, he knows better than the rest of us.

Yeah, Vance called out Biden, the media, and the left for their hateful rhetoric which created the atmosphere for the attempted assassination. The left felt he should be disqualified for his very correct statement.

I read his book a few years ago and enjoyed it.
I guess Trump could have picked worse, but I don’t trust him.... have always had a nagging suspicion that he is just a younger version of Pence. Hopefully I am wrong.
I have long had another sort of rule: Never pick a Senator to be President: Even the best Senators are still part of the “Big Club that we ain’t in”.
Well, I’ll have to hold on to the hope that Vance hasn’t been in the club long enough to be completely corrupted.
Also I don’t see Vance bringing in even one ‘undecided’ vote. As much as I loathe ‘Identity Politics” where people calculate their vote just on race, sex, religion, it shouldn’t be ignored these days.
Maybe the assassination attempt convinced Trump to pick sooner , so as to not leave a giant vacuum at the top of the party if they succeed at the next attempt.

Vance has massacred Trump with insults in the past, saying things like:
- “Trump might be America’s Hitler”
- “Trumpism being Cultural Heroin”
- “That those who voted for Trump were idiots”...
...and many, many more outrageous insults against Trump.
Trump I making an unholy alliance here... History has always showed how badly those contra-nature alliances ends up : in sad and devastating treason.
Trump needed someone to trust, but he chose badly.
Unless... Trump’s technique is to “keep your enemies closer than your friends...”
