Not long before shots rang out, rally goers noticed a man climbing to the top of a roof of a nearby building and warned local law enforcement, according to two law enforcement officials.
One officer climbed to the roof and encountered Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer. The officer retreated down the ladder and Crooks quickly took a shot toward former President Donald Trump, and that’s when the U.S. Secret Service counter snipers shot him, said the officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

I heard the shooter was below the ridgeline. He popped up to fire and they nailed him. You can also hear other gunfire, possibly the police trying to draw him off.
Hearsay, not facts. Funny how none of the video evidence, nor the eyewitness testimony shows this supposed confrontation the “anonymous source” claims happened. Also, shooter fired MULTIPLE shots, so the supposed statement here by this supposed “anonymous source” is directly contradicted by the physical evidence

Incredible! The local cop who wasn’t in on the hit blew it up. The SS was letting the sniper take his leisurely time on the kill shot. The local cop hurried the shot and saved Trump.
Was it the first shot that hit President Trump? That one didn’t seemed rushed. It was spot on and would have done the job but Trump’s slight turn of his head at that same moment saved him from death. The other shots went wild hitting the rally attendees. I guess that’s when the shooter realized his time was short. However, SS let him get off those several shots before taking him out.
The number of failures by both SS and local cops are about too numerous to list.
I don't think he rushed his shot. The only thing that saved Trump was that he turned his head slightly at the last moment.

AP is reporting that the weapon was recovered at the site of the shooting. Yeah, they really said that.
You bet, Trump had turned to his right and was nearly looking directly at the shooter when he took a round to his right ear.
What kind of cop retreats under those circumstances? The cop should have shot the perp right then and there.
Cops have radios. He would have broadcasted SHOOTER ON ROOF
It would have taken 2 seconds.
If he wasn't armed, then he shouldn't have climbed the ladder, but immediately alerted authorities to what he had seen. There is no way the roof of that building should have been left without at least a spotter or two on the top of it. Extremely poor security procedures. You're not supposed to leave any option open to a shooter, but try to cover as many bases as possible to prevent what happened from happening. It's freaking unthinkable, and no one will ever convince me that it wasn't done on purpose.
Trump has held many rallies around the country for the past 8+ years, inside and out, with millions of people in total attending them all, and this occurs just a day before the Republican Convention begins in Milwaukee? And a "loner" is allowed to walk onto the grounds carrying a rifle, climb a building he knew had no law enforcement coverage on it, and shot the President, killed a rally attendee, and none of it was planned by someone other than the shooter? That's total BS. There are no such things as coincidences.

Yes. If Trump had not moved his head to look directly toward the shooter, he would have taken that round almost square in the side of his head. Lights out.
Please tell me this officer was part of the de-escalation unit dispatched to deal with a mental health crisis. Cause otherwise the retreating bit is a tad worrisome.
