Law enforcement officials admitted it was “surprising” how the gunman was able to get so many shots off in the attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump before he was taken out by Secret Service snipers.
During a press conference early Sunday, officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police deferred several questions about security to the Secret Service — who were notably absent.
When asked if he was surprised at the number of shots the gunman was able to take at a former president, Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, said: “It is surprising but, to get all the details of that will come out later in the investigation.”
“The Secret Service really needs to answer that question,” he added, noting that they are in charge of securing the scene and the FBI were just there to support them.
Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens attempted to offer a defense for the Secret Service over the security lapse that nearly caused Trump his life.
“In their defense, what I would want to say is it is incredibly difficult to have a venue open to the public and secure that against any possible threat against a determined attacker, that’s a huge lift to try and do it,” Bidens told reporters.

Yes, I was joking. I went on google earth street view and you can “drive” into the parking lot of the AGR facility. I didn’t see (limited view though) any way to get onto the roof. Most roofs that I’m familiar with would be impossible to get up on without a ladder.

shooter had to go there days before and scouted it out. Still cant believe he got that close. Even CNN is roasting the SS for this.
He was actually a pretty good shot.
Daily Mail reports that Trump moved his head just as the gun was fired. Had Trump not shifted at that specific moment, he might be dead.
I am surprised (not) that the roof tops were not secured or that people on the ground were yelling “he got a gun” and “he is on the roof” before the shots were fired yet they waited until the sniper began firing before taking him out
The attempt on Reagan's life earned him sympathy from across the mainstream political spectrum (the extreme left excepted).
But 2024 is not 1981. I doubt Trump is a martyr to half the country. That half wishes Trump had been killed.

Looking at the GE image again, there appears to be a low-roofed connection between the buildings - maybe 8 feet tall judging from the doorways.
Lots of wood pallets on the loading dock. He could have dragged one of those over to the 8-foot tall flat roof and used it as a ladder and then pulled himself up. And then go up another 3 feet to the gently sloping roof. Two trees are also between the sidewalk and the flat roof section so he could be mostly hidden as he climbed up.
But it sure seems he must have planned it out to some degree, and knew (or lucked out) how the stage would be set up.
A huge lift? One officer with a pistol on that roof could have prevented anyone from getting up on it. His presence alone would have caused the perp to abandon the idea. It was within 400 ft. of the stage, that's not a long shot with a rifle.
No. At this level, there are no "accidents". It played out almost the way they had planned. Except President Trump refused to cooperate.
Funny that the SS did not show up with the other LEOs for the press briefing.
