Ronald Reagan was the last president to be shot in an assassination attempt before Donald Trump was hit at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
When leaving the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. on March 30, 1981, Reagan was shot at several times and wounded when one bullet ricocheted off a vehicle and struck him under the left armpit.
Then-President Reagan spent 12 days at George Washington University Hospital before returning to the White House.
Trump, while not currently the U.S. president, is the first to be shot in an assassination attempt since that day in 1981.
The gunman is dead, according to law enforcement.
The former president and this year’s presumed Republican presidential nominee was speaking at a rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday when several pops were heard before Trump grabbed his ear and ducked behind the podium.
Several members of Trump’s Secret Service detail came to shield and escort him off stage.
A resilient Trump immediately got to his feet and held up his fist as blood streaked down the side of his face.

Was the Secret Service responsible for Reagan getting shot? They sure are tonight when they watched Trump getting shot.
Off-topic, but not completely irrelevant footnote. There’s an impression that China is this bee hive populated by drones in thrall to the leader. Based on what an Italian expat has to say about the precautions taken when Xi Jinping travels out of his centuries-old fortress, the Chinese leadership doesn’t literally think this. Note that this is in a police state where the organs of state security are ubiquitous.
- all roads are blocked and residents in some buildings around the event need to evacuate it (yes even if they live in).
- those in office buildings cannot go out for entire time.

This is not the first attempt on Trump’s life...Like the female who sent a bio-agent to Trump. It was Ricin, very deadly. She was sent to prison for 20+ years about 1 year ago.

There were two (TWICE!) assassination attempts on Prez Ford in mid-1970s, both by Manson Family followers girls, by Sara Jane Moore and Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, both Charlie’s “girls”...
Indeed. Thank God he wasn’t hurt any more than he was, but the bullets did draw blood. That blood rests on the hands and head of every mainstream media mouthpiece that’s uttered hateful rhetoric to stoke this type of action.
For them to feign sorrow for it now is not only disingenuous, it’s downright disgusting. They would be better off to appear on air and sit there in front of the camera, saying nothing.
In a just and righteous world, the FCC would yank their license to operate immediately. All of them!
Imho the more appropriate parallel would be RFK in 1968. RFK in 1968 and trump in 2024 are both candidates for president, before their party’s convention.

I heard a radio news commentator mention this from some one with a longer memory than mine. In the 1940s or early 1950s she was found unconscious near the White House during Truman’s time.
