"Upper stage restart to raise perigee resulted in an engine RUD for reasons currently unknown."

RUD: Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly
it blowed up real good
“RUD” is short for “rapid unscheduled disassembly”
It blowed up real good..................
GMTA!....................
In the past month, SpaceX has successfully launched
8 Starlink missions
2 external commercial missions
1 US civilian government mission
1 US military government mission.
The rest of the world has done what?
Did it really blow up?
from the article:
“Although the stage survived and still deployed the satellites...”
OK, I just checked.
The rest of the world carried out five orbital launches in June. Two of those were US: one Rocket Lab and one ULA (Atlas launched successfully, payload is ... having difficulties).
Apparently, the engine trashed itself on restart. Video showed a lot of ice forming just forward of the engine bell ...
The Starlink satellites were deployed, but in a much lower orbit than desired. SpaceX is attempting to boost them using the satellites’ own maneuvering thrusters, but is not greatly hopeful of this succeeding. They’re in orbit, but a very low orbit and subject to “high” atmospheric drag.
It looks like a LOX leak.
Rocket Lab is an interesting company. Apparently they have carved out a niche launching small low orbit satellites at about $7.5 million per launch.
Stuff happens, even to SpaceX.
Nope. No blow up. It released the satellites early, and was guided to burn up in the atmosphere as it was intended. Satellites will also burn up, failing to boost into intended high orbit.
Bummer 13 of the 20 launched had Direct to Cell payloads.that’s why they went up from California into near polar orbits vs the 55 degree orbits from the Cape. SpaceX had planned to have 800+ by the end of this year in orbit for service in North America Q4 this year pending FCC approval. SMS first then VOLTE then data in 2025. At their launch tempo 13 lost is a few weeks of additional time to service. SpaceX already demonstrated 17 Mbs to a unmodified T-Mobile 5G phone from space. They also demonstrated under heavy tree.cover and inside buildings as well the Starlink birds are beasts when it comes to effective radiated power apparently.
True it might have been a failed mission but I read that even if all 20 sats fail the still have a 99.7% success rate out of 397 launches.
That is a pretty impeccable record..
No impact at all on TSLA stock.
Up 3% during office hours trading.
Up 0.2% in After Hours trading.
TSLA has been on a mega-rally since April 2024.
$144 (Apr) to $248 today. Hit a top at $263 a couple days ago.
Lots of ice on the mylar. I think it was a liquid oxygen leak.
I thought they said RUD?
(Rapid unscheduled disassembly)
what does GMTA mean?
