Martyr Inc.: How Trump Monetized a Persecution Narrative
The New York Times | Yahoo ^ | July 12, 2024 | by Russ Buettner

Posted on 07/12/2024 5:42:40 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Former President Donald Trump hawks $59.99 Bibles with the same words he uses to win the votes of evangelical Christians. He sells swatches of the suit he wore in a mug shot while also raising money for his campaign by calling himself a “political prisoner.” He describes Truth Social, his refuge for those banned on other social media sites — and his best chance to substantially increase his wealth — as a bulwark against liberal companies out to silence Christians and conservatives.

As he seeks to reclaim the presidency, Trump has reprised the pitchman role from his reality TV days, with a crucial difference: He has intertwined the marketing of his private business affairs with the messaging of his campaign, leveraging his political stature for profit.

All of it could be described as Martyr Inc., a machinery that makes Trump money and promotes his reelection by characterizing him as unjustly persecuted and selflessly saving his supporters from a similar fate.

The slimes forgets the history lesson of why Trump had to create his own social media site...

Back in the 50’s when I was a preteen I would get up early in the morning on Monday a.m. and run up and down the neighbor hood streets and collect all the Sunday NYT papers I could find. I got 1 cent a pound for Newspapers that I collected for the junk man. The NYT was the sourse of my income, it turned out as the only reason I liked them. The Sunday times was about 3-4” thick back then.(And now??) Seems to me they were always preferred by the leftists and pushed by the leftist educators in school. They are nothing now compared to what they were. But the NYT is still good for wrapping fish guts. Their sole purpose appears to be slime slinging for the political left. Walter Duranty lives on!

There was this guy once, he didn’t do anything wrong, did great things, hadn’t broken any laws, but really aggravated the religious and political elite because he exposed them. They hated him so much they crucified the guy.

Today’s religious elite looks like Islamism baked into everything and the entire political establishment, D’s and R’s.

Guess what they’d like to do to him. Then they wonder why we support him.

Turns out when the illegal persecution is so obvious and the stakes so high.... its easy to motivate support. The Times is flustered that all their propaganda is utterly useless against Trump. In fact , their blind support of everything leftist is eroding what little cred they have left...even with the left.

To reverse the fortunes of their money-losing cult, the NYT should monetize honest reporting.
