Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is advocating a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine, revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made clear that peace talks can only happen after Ukraine essentially surrenders.

"If we sit in Brussels, we won’t be able to get any closer to peace. Action must be taken," Orban said during a regular interview on Hungarian state radio following his visit.

Orban turned heads this week when he made back-to-back trips to Kyiv and Moscow just days before a major NATO summit in Washington, D.C., next week.

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: George. I'm the guy that put NATO together, the future. No one thought I could expand it. I'm the guy that shut Putin down. No one thought could happen.

Orban’s Hungary is dependent on Russian energy, and that fact completely constrains his foreign policy. His visits to Kyiv and Moscow seem to be a sincerely motivated and constructive fact-finding mission to me. He’s like to find a magic way to end the war, but can’t.

Putin stresses peace only after Ukraine's surrender...

NOW will people believe that the obliteration of Ukrainian borders/language/culture is the final objective here?

The Ukrainian people and Mr. Putin have fundamental disagreements on the future of Ukraine. This war will be resolved by force of arms and/or when one side’s political will breaks.

Discussing negotiations when the passions are still so high is fruitless.
